Confetti? WTF are you people looking for? The only thing that didn't work was the "first guest" but it lead to a pretty good ad-lib with the Irish nutcracker. <object width="442" height="375" classid="clsid27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" id="ep"><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><param name="movie" value="http://i.cdn.turner.com/tegwebapps/tbs/tbs-www/cvp/teamcoco_432x243_embed.swf?context=teamcoco_embed_offsite&videoId=233770" /><param name="bgcolor" value="#000000" /><embed src="http://i.cdn.turner.com/tegwebapps/tbs/tbs-www/cvp/teamcoco_432x243_embed.swf?context=teamcoco_embed_offsite&videoId=233770" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" bgcolor="#000000" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" width="442" height="375"></embed></object>
Adult swim is not on at the same time, at least not here in Mountain time. One thing that might hurt him here is that is on at 9:00 pm, same time as a lot of network shows. I enjoyed tonight although I got a phone call in the middle and missed about half of it.
The bang will come tomorrow with t.hanks, hopefully. Personally, I really didn't care for the set that much, thought it looked cheap. The worse part about the show was the Lopez commercials in between segments. I can't stand that dude.
Caught the first segment. Once again, the skits were funnier than the monologue, which pretty much consisted of: 50% hearing fans clapping 25% touching his audience/moving/dancing on stage 25% jokes Pretty much the same Conan.
Thought it had some funny moments... but I would agree with TheRealist... same Conan. I guess it ain't bad... but I shouldn't have expected more.
Never thought Conan was that funny. Never thought any late night hosts were that funny, for that matter.
i don't know what people expected. Conan was/is conan. Thought it was a good way to start his new gig. Loved the wobbling moon
I think their were some very high expectations for this that are hard to live up to right away. Everyone in this thread is over-analyzing this like they would a Rockets loss. After what he did the last couple of weeks on the TS, I don't know if there's any way to top that. This was the first show and maybe they were a little rusty, but I was entertained. Not a huge Seth Rogan fan though, I thought that was kind of an odd choice for first guest.
Exactly, and its almost like people forget this is a nightly show, not a once a week sitcom. Its obviously harder to be great every day. I was happy with last nights episode. And I agree about Rogan, I am not a fan of his, but I never watch these shows for the interviews anyway
for a debut, it wasnt great, but keep in mind that he is basically having to do over what he did only 1.5 years ago - when he first took over the tonight show the first few weeks were filled w/ hilarious stuff - conan checking out compton or driving in his 93 green taurus thru hollywood or him and andy taking a canoe trip down the l.a. river. as far as a splashy debut, conan and the writers basically blew their comedic load w/ the tonight show last year. i dont know if he will ever top the last couple weeks of the tonight show - he was killing it.
4.2 million watch Conan, beats Leno, Letterman, Stewart, Colbert http://www.deadline.com/2010/11/what-ratings-levels-would-make-conan-a-success/

Nailed it. The few jokes he did crack were recycled from his days at NBC... ripping on the big networks, patting himself on the back for jumping to basic cable, etc. His opening monologue wasn't funny at all. He kept approaching people in the audience and awkwardly moving around on stage. I actually found the interview with Rogen to be hilarious, but Seth did all of the work. Conan sat there and laughed uncontrollably, and didn't bust out any quick comedic remarks. Hopefully tonight's a little more entertaining. I enjoyed last night's show, but it definitely didn't meet my expectations.
I almost fell off the couch with the materbating bear/lotto skit. His monologue was ok but it's not like they are typically chris rock specials...they are what they are. Awkwardly moving around? have you seen conan before? that's what he does. The interview was an interview. Conan typically lets the guest control the segment so long as the guest is doing well. again, i think people were just expecting too much. It's conan...always has been and always will be.
It'd be kind of cool if he could change the formula a bit...like scrap one guest...and have just one guest and one music act...and then the rest monologues and skits. And use the time for monologues and skits to really push the envelope...going into uncharted territories that you couldn't go to on network television...hopefully it heads that way. He's got plenty of time for the show to grow though. And honestly I didn't think the set was all that different from the Tonight Show...seemed to have the same general style and color scheme at least.
