A special premiere of Sherlock airs tonight. Setting is the 1890s.

You can also watch it online at pbs.org/masterpiece

Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game) and Martin Freeman (The Hobbit) return as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson in the acclaimed modern retelling of Arthur Conan Doyle's classic stories. But now, our heroes find themselves in 1890s London. Beloved characters Mary Morstan (played by Amanda Abbington), Inspector Lestrade (Rupert Graves) and Mrs. Hudson (Una Stubbs) also turn up at 221b Baker Street.

Sherlock: The Abominable Bride, a 90-minute special, will premiere Friday, January 1, 2016, on MASTERPIECE Mystery! on PBS at 9:00pm ET, and simultaneously online at pbs.org/masterpiece. The special will have an encore broadcast on Sunday, January 10, at 10:00pm ET. This is the first time that Sherlock has premiered in the US and the UK on the same day.

Glad they are dumping the idiotic delay. Hopefully other BBC shows will follow. Really hated The Imitation Game, so will be nice to see more Sherlock as eye bleach.

What delay do you speak of?

And when will this be on Netflix?

Shows on BBC were previously delayed for weeks or even months before showing here in USA. I vaguely remember it was something about how the BBC is partially paid for by British license holders so they feel they should have some advantage because we would get the same shows without a license.

BBC series usually air in UK a week or more before the US. Read the blurb I pasted.

As for Netflix, PBS is streaming the show tonight. They might stream them all, and provide streams after airing date. Check the link I provided above, and let us know if they say they will stream each show and keep the links active.

Can't believe I missed this. Currently PBS is airing the finale of series 3 and that's all that they'll be airing of Sherlock for the rest of the weekend. It doesn't look like pbs.org will host it until the 11th. Hopefully someone uploads it by tonight.

    Freaking PBS

I recorded and set the recording to extend the maximum 30 minutes after. Doesn't make much of a difference when PBS only slots 30 minutes for the show run when it's closer to two hours.

Arrggh. Now I have to watch it like a caveman and wait for it to re-air so I can catch the last 45 minutes then.

So I heard that this was standalone, and had nothing to do with any of the prior seasons / series that came before it; is this true?

Regardless, is this the best Sherlock that's been released?

It's picks up where last season ended. I think it's one of the best, although I really liked the Season 2 finale with Moriarty's apparent end game.

yes, its a standalone, but it does have to do with prior and future seasons. You can skip this episode and not miss anything. This episode was more about experimenting with cinematography. It was nicely done.

The story in itself was kinda meh.

hating those links you guys posted. (mainly because they didn't work and looked like complete scams)

gotta wait til the 10th to finish the story it seems. Damn PBS still doesn't have their schedule updated for that time. It's like they work off donations or something...

    hint... hint....

    donate please
