I dont think that has anything to do with it. I never read the comics and I feel the same way. the characters and the story are just not interesting so far. I will give it a chance next season because I love the genre, but in terms of the show, it has been a big disappointment to me. http://www.casttv.com/shows/the-walking-dead/ts-19/x8tg597
(Caveat: Mrs. rimrocker used to work at CDC.) Nothing like that computer at CDC. Labs can be contaminated by a quick burst of heat, but it is only set up to happen in the labs and relies on negative pressure, something impossible to do in the regular office part/lobby of the building. The labs would be fired, but not blow up. That would defeat the purpose. Suppose you missed a little pocket of air somewhere and you blow up the building and the bug gets out. That would be stupid, not to mention you'd have to build a new building anytime something went wrong in one of your labs. Summary: Explosion would never happen. As we were watching, Mrs. rimrocker and I were thinking about this... Go to a Masonic Temple... usually well built and no windows with industrial kitchens. Access the roof and you could pick off zombies for a long time.
Good sci-fi and fantasy do not use the genre as a license to defy logic or past human experience without a good explanation. Luckily, zombies as a concept needs no explanation because it's a self-contained mythos (though it's still hard to see a world overrun with lumbering zombies – it flies in the face of the destructive power of modern weaponry and military tactics). But the CDC simply has many design flaws that defy logic. But I suppose a fail-proof self-destruct sequence would not be good for the health of the show.
Something I've been wondering for a long time and I refuse to spoiler. How the hell did the zombies get into the tank to get that guy we saw earlier in the season? Were those soldiers stupid? Seems impossible to me that a bunch of lumbering zombies would manage to get into the tank to kill the driver and infect one of the operators. Just close the hatch and keep driving.
Probably was bit by a zombie and holed himself up in the tank. Maybe the reason he got out was to help his friends who were on foot.
Those tanks suck JP1 jet fuel like there's no tomorrow. I thought about it, and I assumed at some point there was supply line disruption and the tank was out of gas.
I just can't accept the idea that military vehicles were completely overrun by hordes of zombies. Some sure. Not all. Some would lose power sure, but they'd still make effective shelter.
It certainly seems odd, I agree. The only thing I can suggest is that my understanding is that those tanks turn into hot boxes when they are parked and powered down. In a 100 degree Georgia summer, it would be maybe 120 inside with no breeze. If you spent a day or two inside one with no power in the middle of the summer and no water you'd be at least thinking up plans for how you would get out. And you'd have poor visibility. Maybe you think the zombies are all gone but the one you ran over is pinned underneath and it bites you when you try to sneak out for water. But yeah, it seems odd that they were all like that, and it seems odd that both hatches were wide open. BTW, from the cheesy symbolism category, in the first episode, the first helicopter that the protagonist sees getting out of the hospital is the 7th Calvary. 7th Calvary was at Little Big Horn.
When all hell broke loose though it seems like some of the military officers would have put their vehicles together to form a sort of safe haven. I mean the way the zombies are portrayed in this world it's just not possible that all military is completely overrun. They would have figured out ways to survive.
Remember the helicopter that Rick was chasing in the first episode before he was forced to seek shelter in the tank? The one that was written off as a halucination? Maybe they have.
watched 1, 2, and part of 3 before I fell asleep last night/ gonna go crank up the OnDemand and watch 3-6 tonight. forget Chilean Miners, THIS is survival
