Okay, some say George Karl is my father because of the resemblance and I do like him, but I am going to speak out against him anyway... hey George....a) you would have traded the pick which is why you never won a championship b) you were about as good as Shawn Bradley... I really do not have a problem with George's comment actually....except he proved his point in trading the pick as to why he where is without a championship IMHO..he is a good coach, but lacks the "put the ball across the goal line" mentality!
And I used to respect George Karl. So you would have traded the first pick, huh George? Seeing as how that team has been searching for a worthwhile center the past decade, I find it hard to believe that they'd pass on one of the best true centers to enter the draft since Shaq. Actually, he probably would end up trading the pick; despite his merciless begging the Chinese government would never allow Yao play in Milwaukee which has an asian population of about 1. And saying he wouldn't do it because he would be concerned about job security is a total embarassment and should infuriate the entire Milwaukee Bucks organization and anyone associated with it. So you'd rather risk your team's future than risk your job...is that what you were trying to say George? This guy needs to be gagged...if not for that then for him saying Yao is no better than Shawn Bradley. I don't care how much potential he says Ming has. If he can't see how Yao is already a better basketball player than Shawn Bradley he doesn't even deserve to coach the US Basketball team. Does he really believe Bradley would be putting up 32 points 19 rebounds and 5 blocks in the CBA...or any basketball league for that matter. What an ass.
Maybe he would've included the #1 pick with Big Dog in the Kukoc trade, you know, to sweeten the deal.
Barkley on Karl: Karl barks back at Barkley's barbs Last Updated: July 18, 2002 Milwaukee Bucks coach George Karl refutes the notion Charles Barkley of Turner Sports first offered about the Bucks in early April and then again during the National Basketball Association draft. On April 9, the night Milwaukee played Philadelphia on national TV, Barkley said the Bucks quit on Karl and the season. "When your players turn on you, there's nothing you can do about it," Barkley said five games from the end of the season. "George Karl is a good coach but his players have quit." Barkley revisited the issue on draft night June 26. "It was a disgrace what happened to that team this year," Barkley said, referring to the Bucks' precedent of being the only team in league history to be in first place in its division on March 16 and still fail to make the playoffs. "They quit on George Karl. But it's his fault. He drove them nuts. He b****ed and complained all the time and they quit on him." Karl, who is in Boston for Bucks summer-league games, told the Boston Globe that Barkley didn't know what he was talking about in regard to Milwaukee. "I don't think Charles knows," Karl said. "I think Charles is making chaos and he likes to create chaos. I'm very sad by that because he is a friend. There are certain words that are kind of assassinating words and 'quitting on a coach' (are words) of assassination. "If he had said that about a younger coach, or a coach with not as much security, it would be more dangerous. I think sometimes Charles likes to get into that boiling water of spin and perception more than the truth. That's what he gets paid to do." Karl said his team did not quit on him. "If my team quit on me, and I don't think they did, but if they did, whose problem is it? The coach's or the players'? If a player has the ability to quit playing on a good coach - and I'm going to pat myself on the back a little bit there - then who are they going to play for?" Maybe his Sonic teams quit as well. Or Maybe Karl is just a bad coach.
Did I miss something? I heard Karl's TSN interview, the interviewer (same guy who slammed Yao after the draft, only to get pimp-slapped by, uh, Rick Barry [?] and who has since changed his tune) asked about Yao, "how do you compare him," kinda mentioned that he should certainly be better than Bradley or Smits... ...and Karl said quickly, something like, Well, he's certainly as good as Shawn Bradley now.... (in other words, there's no question about it). It sounded less like the two players are equals than, Oh, pshaw, don't worry about it, Yao's better than Bradley and Yao hasn't even played an NBA game yet.
"A coach with not as much security" would be George Karl himself. And, yes, it is quite dangerous to his job. I think his assessment of Barkley as a commetator is quite accurate though.
