I'm a middle aged Hispanic man. From years of personal experience and hanging out with my white and black friends, I've notice that AC/DC's "Shook me Up" is damn near a white mans anthem.
When they first hear that guitar in the beginning, they'll chugg their beer, put it down and start to dance and yell "That is a jamm man, yeeaaaahhh!" They usually go and dance and come back and take a swig of their drink while panting and breathing hard and go back to dance with the many white women on the dance floor.
I think anything AC/DC will make white men act crazy.

Thanks for your excellent contributions. After your posts, I do feel like my musical horizons have been expanded. I liked the video by The Call the best out of the five. It really left me with that "Wow" sensation like I have just seen something really special. I had no idea that Michael Been, the lead singer from the Call, could sing so well. Clearly, he can. I had never seen that video, but now that I have, it will remain for me an all time classic from now on.

The Joni Mitchell video was classic as well. As was the Marvin Gaye clip. And the Jackson Browne song was amazing. Real quality stuff. The Kinks recording was interesting. I had not heard that before, and I am going to listen to it again. But the Call recording I have already listened to four times. Really fantastic stuff.

Thanks again for all of your posts.

Here is an especially excellent rendition of The Rolling Stones "You Can't Always Get What You Want." It was recorded back in 1972 when Mick Taylor was still the lead guitar player. The guitar work in the middle of the song is truly amazing, and there is a saxophone segment as well. This is classic.

Here is a clip from the movie "Ray", which is about Ray Charles. It is an excellent movie to watch, for anyone who has never seen it. In fact, I would say that Ray Charles is the 'quintessential' American musician. He is the man who stands at the crossroads and brings it all together. If I were asked which single musician best represents what American music is all about (as if that were rally possible), I would say Ray Charles.

Anyway, this is classic piece of music that I always really enjoy.

I think you should have started the thread by defining middle age. I've always thought it started around 40. I did a Google search, and I found that people consider middle aged to be anywhere between 25-75. It seems to me to be a combination of mindset, independence and physical deterioration.

Anyway, I'm a whitey and turning 37 in June, so I guess I'm pretty dang close to middle aged if not there already. And I don't enjoy any of the music mentioned, except AC/DC, and that's on a very limited basis.

My tastes change all the time. I went on a big Kings of Leon binge a couple of months ago and currently I'm in to dirty electronica/house music. I started working out and the high beats per minute really keeps me going, and I found that I enjoy listening to it when I'm driving as well.

So I don't get the whole 'middle aged music' idea.

    That is so true. Nice.

There is no such thing as "middle aged music", so we can put that idea to bed once and for all.

I just wanted to start a thread oriented toward music that is for the most part a bit older than what is currently popular; mainly rock tunes, R&B, probably some blues, perhaps a little disco, and maybe a few country songs as well - that sort of thing. I get the sense that most posters on this board are under 30 and still into a lot of the pop tunes, rap music, top 40 and whatever else is hip these days. When I was a teenager and in my 20's I listened to pop tunes all of the time. But now, I do not. And I am confident that there are a lot of other posters around here who also used to listen to a lot of trendy pop tunes, but now just no longer do.

It makes no difference if you are middle aged, or what age you are. I am sure that there are other threads with pop tunes or indie type music. I have no desire to disparage those threads or discourage people from enjoying them. But not everyone is into all of that. So, this thread is for a large group of music loving Rockets fans that in my view have been musically 'under-served' here in this forum.

If you have any relevant, quality music that you would like to post in this thread, please do so. If you are not interested in this sort of music, then maybe this thread is just not for you.

I'm 36 and last week I got on a 90's music search looking at old billboard charts to see names I recognized. Well, I found a lot of songs that I LOVED at the time and haven't thought of since.

That is an awesome song. I have not heard that in quite few years. That made me smile just watching it. Thanks for posting that.

And thank you for your kind words. I really appreciate your comments of support.

i was wondering what 'whiteness' had to do w/ it too. and he said you cant talk about 'pop', as if white people dont listen to 'pop'. or white people dont listen to rap. or middle aged 'black guys' dont listen to clapton.

i like how he called british guitar legend who ripped off american black bluesmen/notorious junkie/guy who stole best friends wife "old-school middle-America".

and the fact that he posted a clapton song is funny on multiple levels. 1) clapton was reinterpreting american black music and 2) clapton sucks.

but now that i think about it, eric claptons version of blues is pretty much the epitome of 'whiteness' so maybe jorge is onto something here!

as a middle aged white guy myself i found your entire premise flawed and irrelevant to the style of music you wished to discuss. you were obviously going for something there.
