I found the answer to my question(Phi Phi Le is the island where "The Beach" was filmed):

The spectacular Phi Phi Islands are two islands; Phi Phi Le and Phi Phi Don, of which only Phi Phi Don is inhabited. These idyllic islands are easily accessible from the mainland, with boats leaving from Krabi. There are also plenty of boats that leave from Phuket.

Phi Phi Le is only six square kilometres in area and is predominantly made up of sheer cliffs, with a number of caves and hidden coves. One of the most interesting is the Viking cave, with paintings dating back over 400 years ago that resemble Viking long boats adorning its walls. The cave also contains the famous sea-swifts nests, of birds-nest soup fame. The island is uninhabited, mainly because of the priceless birds nests, but many boats from Phi Phi Don regularly take the short jaunt over to visit the cave and the island's secluded beaches.

Phi Phi Don, 2 km to the north is the larger of the two at 28 square kilometres. All accommodation is on this island, based mainly around Ton Sai Bay, where all the incoming boats dock. The bay is a long curving stretch of white sandy beach, wedged between two limestone peaks. Phi Phi Don has an abundance of fine tropical beaches along its southern and eastern shores, with plenty of limestone karsts offering spectacular views over the islands.

More info if anyone is interested...

Actually I think it's 35 million and please don't turn this into a D&D thread.

Oh I know, Fatty - I was just pointing out how ridiculous DHB's post looks because of that as well as the fact that Surfguy posted about how he doesn't like what people like DHB did.

Call it an "effect post" if you will.:)

I agree its totally petty and stupid to criticize the US and I'm heartened by the swift response that the Admin is doing for the disaster.

That said I think few Americans understand the depth of hatred that most people in that region have towards the US and this Admin. in particular. When I was in Malaysia last year not even hustling street vendors would talk to me when they found out I was American. I had to go around telling people I was Canadian lest I wanted to get my food spat on or worse. One Indian man even quizzed me on Canada because he was suspicious of anyone with a North America accent. Luckily I had just been to Calgary a few months earlier and was able to convince I was Canadian and not in his words "one of those American sh*ts"

Hopefully once people start seeing a strong US response to this disaster that will go a long ways towards easing feelings.

I am now soliciting suggestions for why this thread should not be relegated to the D&D swamp.

Right, that stupid **** isn't political.

IMHO, SirChang sounded like he was speaking from first hand experience, unlike the rhetoric blowhardness found in the D&D.

Yes, and his first-hand experience was "America BAD, Bush Administration WORSE". Cue the rolleyes. I don't doubt it was true, the question is whether it belongs in the Hangout rather than the D&D. As someone who frankly doesn't want to hear the pissings and moanings of political animals of any ilk, especially in the context of trying to help people who've experienced an incredible tragedy, let's just say it doesn't fit my vision of what the Hangout's for.

We're supposed to be making fart and dick jokes here and ragging on anything UT's athletic department does. Anecdotes of Amerikkkan evil aren't really part of that.

    OH MY GAWD !!

I just found out from our CEO that one of our employees was there vacationing with his family.

And his 12 year old son was found walking along the beach, apparently he saw his mom and dad washed out to sea, and they are presumed dead.

The boy is on his way to his grandfathers house in Sweden.

    Just a horrific thing......what a tragedy.

Ya see, this is what happens when a devoted Hangout poster tries to respond to a D&D topic. Since I don't go there, I have no idea of SirChang's idealologies, thus I spoke out of place. My bad.

To be honest, I would suspect nobody wants to read about a disaster of this magnetude. At least I hope not.....

But I can't get enough of it. Wow. Sometimes I'm at a loss for words....

Brian, have you taken over moderator duties for the hangout? I wasn't sure because it still has Clutch's name assigned to it.

I think from now on if anybody sees an inflammatory post like the one that DanHiggsBeard did in this FORUM, say to this poster - "Wrong forum" or better yet, "Get that **** out of our forum."

    Who is with me?
