Can anyone give a brief scouting report on Alston's game? All I know is that he's troubled and has a really long contract. Thanks!
Alston's attitude worries me...James was great off the bench...Alston is the more proto-typical point guard...man I'm so conflicted on this move....I think I would've rather kept James...I means he had some tenacious D.
Not sure how I feel about this if it is true. I know some people here weren't down with Mike James but he was probably our best defensive guard with the exception of Wesley.
omg... are you serious?? James was good for us... hard drives to the basket... hm... i guess this clears roster up a bit though.
Just FYI, training camp media availability for players is probably going on right now. Should be interesting to hear after that.
Yeah, but James played pretty darn good defense....and to me that counted alot more than his offensive game.
You know what, I think this was just a trade just for the sake of doing a trade. What was that Mike James said about money and taking the higher contract again? I don't think they are looking to improve as suppose to not lose him for free.
is he gonna be a Chemistry breaker? http://www.hoopshype.com/players/rafer_alston.htm http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=3282
Yep, it's on the Raptors home page but not on the Rockets. http://www.nba.com/raptors/ http://www.nba.com/rockets/
I'm not sure how much I like this. Even though he's trigger happy, James did give us a nice offensive spark at times. I'll admit though, I don't know a lot about Alston's game. Anybody?
since when was skip to my lou a true point guard? all descriptions and things i've seen from him point to him being a shoot first, shoot second, pass third PG. add to that the public criticism from sam mitchell about alston looking to score too much.
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20051004.wraps4/BNStory/Sports/ Raptors deal Alston to Rockets Tuesday, October 4, 2005 Posted at 12:45 PM EDT Canadian Press St. Catharines, Ont. — The Toronto Raptors traded temperamental point guard Rafer Alston to the Houston Rockets in exchange for guard Mike James on Tuesday. Alston, 29, was involved in several controversies last season. He threatened to quit the team and the NBA after a Dec. 3 game in Boston and was suspended by the Raptors for two games for conduct detrimental to the club after he walked out during a practice. The six-foot-two, 170-pound Alston averaged 14.2 points per game in 2004-05 with 3.5 rebounds and 6.4 assists. James is a six-foot-two, 188-pound NBA journeyman who has played in Miami, Boston, Detroit, Milwaukee and Houston. In 248 career games, the 30-year-old has averaged 9.2 points, 2.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists.
Last year was first year of 6 year $26m contract. Final year is not guaranteed. So he's under contract for at least 4 more seasons.
