Love the move. Finally have a true PG who will calm down under the regime of JVG. This is a legitimate team that can take on the Spurs and whoever stands in their way!

    GO ROCKETS!

Wow- my knee-jerk reaction was that this was a bad deal. I really liked MJ's toughness and penetration skills. But after reading this entire thread, examining the stats, and knowing that JVG most likely got some unbiased opinion on Alston, this looks like another phenominal trade by Dawson.

van gundy and dawson knew what was coming. they read mike's unnecessary quotes about getting the big bucks after the season ended. Once sura went down indefinitely, they knew mike was going to "go for his".

sorry to beat a dead horse, but you just have to imagine van gundy's dismay when everyone is talking about the upcoming season and its propsects and mike james would rather talk about his contract.

Hey hey, save that for D&D.

Is anyone listening to them talking on 610? I think they stole everything from the boards. In fact, Mark pretty much listed them in the order they were posted....

but since you think Sura is done, you're saying you would rather have James start and handle the ball distribution responsibilities? That was my biggest worry this offseason. He could have probably done okay, but I have not liked what I have seen from him in that area.

HOWEVER! Lets not get carried away with the sure champs talk, Rockets got better, but I'm not sure if a healthy Sura isn't better than Alston. Don't build up Alston as a player that pushes the Rockets to the top, people are going to be disappointed when he doesn't, which will start ugly threads all over. Expect him to contribute and help somewhat like a PG version of Juwon Howard, not a PG version of Dikembe Mutombo or like I said, maybe not even Bobby Sura.

:) IMO, as much as I didn't want to see MJ go, this is a good trade as long as SKIP doesn't go psycho like last season. Specially with the situation with Sura's knee, we can not just hope sura can pull thru because how about if he doesn't. We're left with MJ(good off the bench), moochie and ward

Don't underestimate Luther Head either- unless JVG freezes him out because he's a rookie.

Like many others,I will miss James's defense. It can be replaced though.
That said,Alston is more than capable when it comes to running an offense. He'll find Yao and Tracy where they need the ball.Rafer shoots at least as well as James and won't be hogging the ball or forcing near as many shots. Our chemistry should be really good. The contract doesn't concern me,as you have to pay for a quality, well rounded player, who "gets it" on the court. As far as the much discussed off the court stuff,it was that maniac Sam Mitchell who was the problem.Look at it this way....If Rafer was a stock, this is definitely the time to buy,as his value is temporarily, artificially depressed much like Pfizer when the Celebrex problem broke.
Good move for need and value!Go CD!

For all the folks who've whined and whinnied in the past about CD's moves...

Look at the transformation of this team.

We are watching a true talent at work.

It almost makes you sad that the off-season is ending ... almost. :)

wth are you talking about, do you think jvg had no knowledge of this trade? or he's planning to ship alston out again? this guy flourished in Miami under SVG 2 years ago and JVG got what he wanted this year..

I like the addition! Although I'm not sold on his defense, he looks to bring a pass-first attitiude to the PG position that we have not had in a while. I just wonder where CD is going with this team as we seem to be getting more and more of the makeup of a running squad.

Now we have just one more move to make to get us to the Finals:

Get us "Escalade" to bang in the paint now!
