i think we're all assuming the knicks will suck tremendously forever...that is likely not to be the case with all this cap room they'll have. I think they'll overpay FAs and not have many role guys and/or a bench, but that still may good enough in the east to squeak into the playoffs or barely missed them. I dont think we're looking at very high picks except for this summer. I think next year they get a 10-15 pick and in 2012, boston will likely be dismantled and the knicks may take that playoff spot on the lower end, meaning their pick will be high.
if morey does all this for just rubio, it's going to be a trevor ariza-like move (i don't think rubio is in his plans). he's trying to land an established superstar and all these assets will be used in a S&T this offseason (his eyes are on chris bosh)
I cant figure out for the life of me why so many people on this site have wet dreams on rubio. stop drinking the ESPN kool-aid.
Rubio named top young player in Europe for 3rd time The Associated Press • February 12, 2010 MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota Timberwolves prospect Ricky Rubio has been named the best young male player in Europe for the third year in a row. The Timberwolves said Thursday the honor comes from the European division of the international basketball governing body FIBA. The point guard from Spain has played this season for professional team FC Barcelona. The Timberwolves took Rubio with the fifth pick in last year’s draft and hold his NBA rights. Rubio started playing professionally at age 14. He’s 19 now. http://www.sctimes.com/article/2010...named-top-young-player-in-Europe-for-3rd-time
Even so, those picks being unknown will be valuable. Morey can dangle that 2012 pick, especially if it is unprotected, as a huge bargaining chip. But after the Knicks sign Lee, I really don't see any advantage to LeBron or Wade for going there (not to mention that they can make more money staying put). I bet they'll overpay a 2nd tier guy (Boozer, Amare, etc)- not max money, but they'll overpay nonetheless - and then maybe re-sign Mcgrady with what's left if he plays well enough. Then they'll make themselves believe Mcgrady/Lee/Amare is enough. That could be a decent team but I don't think it's an automatic playoff team.
Uh, I'd rather have Rubio. I'm on board with the OP - Rubio is special. Morey knows it - that's why he tried to trade half the team for him.
i still don't understand rubio. if he can shoot, +1 over Lowry. PG is not the weakness of the rockets.
Why get Rubio, when you can sign Dogus Balbay as an undrafted FA in a couple of years? Balbay is an equally terrible shooter that causes defenses to sag off him.
We still need another good defensive PG so Brooks can move over into SG position. He needs to be placed into the 6th man role so he can stop blowing games at the end when he goes cold. Look at how good Jason Terry is as a 6th man when he gets hot... JR Smith? I know AB opens up opportunities for other players with his quickness, but that doesn't matter when you go cold and refuse to pass the ball.
Doesn't help to sag off a guy with a handle and court vision of Rubio. He's just going to take the ball into you, penetrate, and get the perfect little dipsy doodle pass to his mate for the dunk or the layup for himself. SAGGING doesn't help. Rubio is a generational talent. He had CP3 and Kobe raving about him after playing against them in the Olympics and he was still a teenager. He's a combo of Magic Johnson/Pistol Pete/Steve Nash. He will be a big time, primo player in the NBA for years to come. I'm convinced Morey sees it and is going after him hard by stockpiling these picks. Can't you hear it coming over the PA system at Toyota Center? Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrubio! China, Europe, South America unite. We will be the team of the PLANET!
The T-Wolves don't need any more 2010 first rounders. As it stands now, they will have their own, Charlotte's and Utah's.
