    The problem with fasting is the knowledge that you're forbidden to eat food.

    This one time, I was trying to lose weight, and I just stopped eating for like a week, nothing but water.... I truly didn't realize until day 7. Somehow, when I sleep and wake up, it's like my stomach resets.

    But when Ramadan comes along, right around 4pm-ish I am pulling my freaking hair out. It's just crazy. Then when it's time to eat and you dig in like a madman, you haven't eaten for so long that your stomach shrunk and your stomach can't take as much as your mind wants. So then you realize that you have to just have a snack when it's time to eat, and LATER on really dig into some REAL food.

    So is there any actual medical evidence by respected medical sources that prove that fasting actually "cleanses" your body?

    Well, that's the thing - The only thing that she changed was her morning meal time... Instead of it being at 8 or 9am, it was at like 5 or 6am. She rarely, if ever, gets to eat dinner before 8pm anyway. So really, she's pretty much keeping her schedule, and dropping a meal (and some weight).

    i tried to fast yesterday but then i accidentally ate 3 bowls of cereal for lunch, some ice cream, a pizza from domino's for dinner and then washed it all down with some Big Red. i was this close to making it.

    i rarely eat breakfast...and often, work keeps me from eating lunch. so i grab an apple. and then have dinner. after sundown of course.

    so apparently i regularly fast. i didn't know it until today, but i feel infinitely more spiritual now!! :)

    speaking of fasting...i really dig this...sorry if it's an inappropriate forum for it:

    Isaiah 58:6-9

    6 Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen:
    to loose the chains of injustice
    and untie the cords of the yoke,
    to set the oppressed free
    and break every yoke?
    7 Is it not to share your food with the hungry
    and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter-
    when you see the naked, to clothe him,
    and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?
    8 Then your light will break forth like the dawn,
    and your healing will quickly appear;
    then your righteousness [1] will go before you,
    and the glory of the LORD will be your rear guard.
    9 Then you will call, and the LORD will answer;
    you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I.

    i'm not a doctor...but i did stay in a holiday inn express last night.

    it just seems to me that denying your body food...nutrients...over long extended periods of time...is a really, really bad idea.

    i get it for religious purposes. i'm not talking about that. it just seems to me that as a lifestyle choice for healthy living, fasting may not be the way to go.

    Fasting is not just not eating food, it is the concept of sacrificing a necessity to enhance your spritual being. I have fasted by not watching TV, walking places instead of driving and food too.

    Good luck El and if you fast please take it seriously.
