Because Battier is nothing more than a really good role player in which we (in my scenerio) would be replacing with Matt Barnes. This would trim the roster without depleting any depth. Now I know Artest is a powder keg waiting to explode but RA has a history working with these kind of players. Just ask all the Bonzi lovers. Artest like him or not, is one of the best defensive players in the NBA and would put this team up there with Dallas and Pheonix talent wise. Even if he didnt workout we still would be coming out alright as Barnes is Battier light. By the way thanks for responding half way civilized. I just post my opinions, if you dissagree with them thats ok. No reason to get personal. We are after all both Rockets fans right?

what is with the intense fascination with francis? it seems to me that most people want him on the team cause they feel sorry for him. if that's the case, it is just a wasted roster spot. mike harris is looking a hell of a lot better than the most recent francis performances.

Feel sorry for him? I don't think anybody in their right mind would give a roster spot because of pity. Most people want him because 1) He's basically a Mike James with more talent at 1/5 the price and 2) He plays with heart and passion, which we were missing in the playoffs.

Of course the problems with getting Francis are that 1) we already have Mike James, and 2) We don't really know how much Francis' game has degraded and how much was just being on the Knicks.

The same can be said for all those spouting that Francis did nothing for us, the Mobley-SF years were the worst because of SF, etc.

I think he is better than Rafer, James, Lucas, Brook, or whoever who can sign for PG. He is taking $1 mil the first year, virtually free. 2nd year $5 mil is not much and can be easily traded if necessary.

Don't confuse summer league with NBA. Lucas looked like MVP caliber last summer but he cannot do **** in real NBA.

SF would have been the legit starting pg we haven't had in the last three seasons. True he is not a great play maker, but he can take some load off Tmac and he can still be a good scoring option.

wow! i must have been mistaking that steve francis who played for new york with the one you guys are talking about. i don't see him being better than james. he may be a little better than rafer and thats only cuz he's a better shooter. besides that, i don't see how he exceeds reafer.

I wish Francis and the Clippers would hurry up with the contract so this endless debate can, well, end.

Right on! If we could get Barnes it would be great although that's quite unlikely to happen.

Knicks makes every player they have look worse than they are. It is just a dumb organization with a dumb GM who is the dumb coach now.

He is much better a shooter than Rafer (pretty much everyone is), so opponents won't dare to leave him wide open. He can penetrate and dish out, that is not something James or Rafer do. And as much as you may dislike him, he plays with passion (too much of it at times). His main problem was not defering to Yao enough. Now he is humbled, I don't think he will have problem being the third option or being a mere role player.

Well, since he is signing with Clippers, this discussion is ... irrelevent.

Battier and Sura for Q-Rich. Q-Rich can play the the 2 spot or the 3 spot both offensively and defensively so we wouldnt be losing much by losing Battier. He could probably defends point guards also.Whenever Tmac sits down we wouldnt miss a beat with Bonzi and Q-Rich on the floor at the same time.

How does New York feel about him? Would they be willing to trade him since they just traded away their small forward to Portland? Was he ever mentioned in the Artest trade talks?I know he makes more than Battier but his contract is shorter and we might as well make use of Sura's contract. If we were to add can we say Championship :)What do you guys think?

If Sacramento trades Bibby, they will have no pg under contract. How about offering Alston, Lucas and Snyder or Reed for Kenny Thomas. KT's making a lot of money, but his deal only has 2 years left on it (1 less than Rafer's). They also just drafted Hawes and signed Mikki Moore, so they don't have a lot of need for him. I think he would be a nice veteran 4 off the bench who has experience playing in Adelman's system.

    Q-rich?

Bonzi and Q-rich on the floor together?

    Q-rich's contract- http://www.hoopshype.com/salaries/new_york.htm

    *shudder*

(translation- I feel that a player like Head will do when it comes to Q-rich's strong points. And i don't feel like paying 8 or 9 million for him)

if you want S.F. then get rid of M.James but not R.A. R.A. played his level in playoff and M.J. not in 2005. R.A. is a better p.g. and M.J. is a better scorer.
