Paul Ryan [IMG] publicly opposes Trump's impetuous tariff announcement, https://www.cnbc.com/2018/05/31/hou...-decision-to-impose-tariffs-on-us-allies.html

"Instead of addressing the real problems in the international trade of these products, Trump's tariff targets America's allies when we should be working with them to address the unfair trading practices of countries like China," "there are better ways to help American workers and consumers."

Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) blasted Trump after his administration announced it would impose steep tariffs on the European Union, Canada and Mexicom http://thehill.com/policy/international/390053-gop-senator-on-trump-tariffs-this-is-dumb

"This is dumb," Sasse said. "Europe, Canada, and Mexico are not China, and you don't treat allies the same way you treat opponents. We've been down this road before — blanket protectionism is a big part of why America had a Great Depression.

"'Make America Great Again' shouldn't mean 'Make America 1929 again", when the 'protectionist trade policies, Smoot Hawley Act, were passed into law, leading the US into the Great Depression

LOL why are we supposed to care about so-called leaders like Paul Ryan and Ben Sasse?

Other than making a few comments to reporters THEY NEVER EXERCISE THEIR LEGISLATIVE POWER to check Trump. NEVER.

It's all just pointless talk. Who gives a **** if they obliquely express discomfort? Why do reporters still pretend their opinion matters? They don't do anything to stop Trump. No matter how far he goes, no matter how much damage he does. They never do a thing. \

For example If they wanted to override his tariffs they could legislate it away, probably in a veto-proof manner. They could be gone by the end of the day. But they won't.

Leaders need to lead. They are not leaders.

    Feckless runts.

They are (rightfully) scared to death about being ousted if they do anything to oppose Trump.

EU should have targeted swing states. Amateurs.

Congress can stop this whenever they want. They don't because they want to give Trump space to negotiate to make it right in the end. So why pretend to be outraged?

Jesus the leadership from both the left and the right are terrible. The best and the brightest my ass.

The left let a narcissist sociopath beat them in the general election by race baiting and talking about building the wall of Jericho.

The right cannot even stand up to a 75 year old infant, and they meekly complain and then stick their fingers up their asses when he barks at them.

Seriously, who the hell cares what the limp wristed Paul Ryan thinks? Who the hell cares what Nancy Pelosi says.

This is serious **** and all we get are distractions about Roseanne being a racist or Samantha Bee calling a cunt out for being a cunt.

Stop equating the left to the right.

    Just Stop.

Comparing them, lends credence to the idea that both are legitimate political entities, which have their own unique flaws. This is not remotely accurate. The left is a flawed political entry, this is true. However the right is a corrupted cancer which is destroying our empire.

That's hilarious with regard to Paul Ryan - he is actually quitting - and he is afraid of this two-bit demagogue of disaster. He really has nothing to lose, worst comes to worse he heads into his cushy career of lobbyign earlier rather than later, but yet he is so cowardly, he does nothing.

Ryan and McConnell should be mentioned in the same sentence as Neville Chamberlain but in many ways that's unfair to Neville. At least he wasn't in the Nazi party.

Even the ones who are "retiring" or "quitting" still hope to have political careers. It's not until they are truly done with office that they really grow spines unless they want to cater to the anti-Trump crowd. Paul Ryan wants to run again for something in the future.

    This

    BUT also 3 things

    1. America has been taken advantage of on trade, and the politicians do nothing because they are scared of any bad press, and the economic hurt in the short term. There are always elections, elections can always be swayed by short term problems. That's how deficits like this build up over time.

    2. United States can crush everyone in a trade war. Our deficits overall with these countries is insane. They can put more tariffs on the few goods they buy, but most they don't buy in comparison to what America buys from them. There is no other way around the fact they will lose much more.
Hypothetically IF the economic hit was equal, America would be better situated to take that hit then these other countries (except maybe China, which would be close). But it is equal, they are going to get hurt far worse. I commend the EU for trying to go for tariffs on the conservative areas as election season enters, but it's overall pretty laughable.

    3. Much like Trump threatening to pull out of the summit. That wouldn't be good for anybody, however America would have looked worse if it fell through in the short term. Trump is ok with that, because long term, if push came to shove, America would win over North Korea.
Trump gives no worries about short term bad press. If anything blame the media for always attacking Trump, it's essentially made him immune to the hate. This is Trumps main negotiating tactic. It's leverage. Big time leverage. It's going to be taken serious in time too, because it will be felt by everyone. Trump himself would have rather not pulled out of the summit (think of the bad publicity) and he would rather not be in a tit-for-tat trade war (short term repercussions & publicity), these are things he's willing to follow through on though if he has to. NK came to the table. America will win any long term trade war. I wouldn't be shocked if they succumb like NK & go back to the negotiating table sometime in June.

Peace in Korea, and billions of $$ coming into the country from more equal trade will be accomplished within 2 years time. Short term economic hits will be fixed by then and so be wary people, he is going to have a strong platform for 2020. However, one of the big things though is no one knows whats going to happen with Iran.

Here is the gist of what I hear from my detractors:
    • Automation is responsible for most job loss.
    • Automation is responsible for income stagnation.
    • Automation is so scary the Democrats should make this the first big issue if they ever take back congress.
Then I mention something about reducing immigration or increasing a tariff here and there, and that's when the handles fly off: "racist", "bigot", "xenophobe", "trade war", "protectionist", "isolationist", etc.

Then when I spell out the relationship between supply-and-demand, immediately they go back to automation but with an even angrier tone: "doesn't matter, automation will take all those jobs".

    Good grief.

actually, ur publicizing your less-than-adequate understanding of demand & supply,
clueless as to the impact of substitute goods on the demand / supply dynamics

while many attempted to educate you the economic law of substitute goods, no one called you bigot or racist.

this was my educational post for you

quit playing the victim card, who the hell you think you are, DJ Trump !

So we are simultaneously being taken advantage and have the ability to crush everyone? China doesn’t have elections, seems they can outlast Trump.

Trump most certainly cares about bad press and his image. Crowd size seems very important. Are talking about different Trump?
