I am a teacher and had never really bought into the babysitter thinking but I never realized how teachers and the school . systems underpin the economy by actually serving that important "sitter" function.

Yes the compensation and respect need to be more instead of being looked down on by some.

To hear FoxNews tell it, being a teacher is the cushiest job in America. I just dunno why American haven't flooded the teaching ranks to get some of that easy money.

someone made the comment how important teachers are for the economy - babysitter function. I never thought of it that way. I have always highly respected teachers as a profession and they shouldn’t be baby sitters. But if that’s how society depends on them - for not just education but for the economy, we should be asking busn to pony up more for pre-K and elementary and middle schools.

Mariano Rivera is gonna end COVID?

As for schools, people need to remember that when COVID spread in a location, it gets spread further into the wider society as well. COVID spread in bars don't just stay among bar patrons and workers, COVID spread in churches don't just stay among those attending churches. And COVID spread in schools-- among students, teachers and other workers-- won't just stay among them, either. The are not going into an NBA bubble, they are going home to families, going to grocery stores and doing whatever else they do. Even if a set of individuals (children under the age of ????) are less prone to contract and spread COVID, it's one additional set of contacts and possible vectors on top of what we already have-- and what we already have is already straining medical resources in multiple locations.

    Ha!

Any and everything to hate the libs.

I will admit I never knew that there was this much hate for anything that can be considered Liberal or Democrat.

    Mission accomplished Newt.

Even taking away the inaccuracies in Trump’s statement, it’s pathetic that he can’t stay on topic to save his life. Whether he is simply deflecting or his mental faculties are in a sharp rate of decline, neither is acceptable for someone in his position.

According to her family, the nine-year-old girl had no underlying health conditions, either.

“Kimora Lynum died last Saturday in Putnam County. Her family said she had no underlying health conditions when she developed a very high fever.“

Teaching it seems has the lowest salary/(education time required to be said proffesion) ratio.

Don't high school teachers need master degrees?

No, they don't need Master's degrees. Even with a Master's degree, which is more than Trump has, they only get about 1,200 more a year bonus.

Maybe I'm just remembering all my AP teachers had masters degrees in high school. Also went to one of the better school districts in Houston area(fbisd) so that probably just naturally attracted more credentialed teachers.

But ya that's a pathetically low bonus. That job is far too important and requires a serious amount of skill to being paid so little.

Because, when I worry about my child playing football, the first thing I think is that they could come back with a deadly virus that could also infect his grandparents... this shows how dishonest and outright idiotic the argument for sending kids to school has become...

NFL players walked away from millionaire contracts due to health concerns. NBA players were allowed to opt out of the bubble. Teachers should be allowed to opt out.

If the schools are making plans for sick students and teachers, they are expecting a percentage of those to be deaths, right?
