To follow up on this comment, this wouid be like the Dems openly sabotaging the ACA because they wanted to cause harm to the current healthcare system and inflict harm in order to campaign for and ultimately force people to the table to get Medicare for all through Congress.

Smart Republicans should be speaking out vehemently about this approach if they truly cared about immigration and the border and didn’t just care about political wins and losses and owning the libs.

People who say they aren't taking jobs are dead wrong. Those jobs can be filled if they pay a livable salary and they would be filled. Any other jobs can be filled by prisoners, automation, and legal workers here on a temporary visa.

 

With all due respect RayRay, while that is correct, the "legal immigrants" have simply been processed and need to report back for a court date to determine their status. Make no mistake about it though, they are being coached on what to say to be granted that status. I have friends in Border Patrol, and family in Customs and have had some great discussions on the matter, and they all say the same things. They come over, whether caught illegally crossing the border or crossing the entirety of Mexico to request asylum as soon as they reach a port of entry and say the magic words.

Regardless of the immigrant status, this "no-border-emergency" mayor is still asking the federal government to tap into the National Emergencies Act to help offset the cost of this large influx of immigrants...all the while while he continues to declare that there is No Border Emergency.

 

Ignoring that trump is creating the "emergency" by threatening to close the border "next week" and by cutting off aid to countries that would help keep people there.

 

It may be simplistic, but that sounds a lot to me like we are paying other countries for them to keep their country's people out of here.

You are right... it is simplistic. And a good deal of foreign aid is intended to be spending money elsewhere with the idea it benefits us here.

btw, the fence portion he is commemorating with a plaque to himself was actually initiated in 2009 by President Obama. But trump is always quick to take credit for Obama's work. When DHS secretary nielsen was questioned about the inaccurate plaque, she weakly replied "Its a wall, this is what the president asked us to do. Its part of a system."
