Agreed. Especially since it is clear we should not expect help from our allly the US.

Thank you, Congress. I'm glad you're still good for something.

I wouldn't be that pessimistic, not yet, but I can totally understand why the Dutch and the rest of our allies in Europe are deeply worried about whether the United States, under Mr. trump's "leadership," would stand by our commitments to the NATO alliance. That worry, that uncertainty, is exactly what Putin and his huge intelligence apparatus, with its cutting edge cyber capability, are working so hard to promote. Putin wants our NATO allies to doubt our treaty commitment to the alliance. That doubt and its consequences weaken NATO and every member state in it. In my opinion. That there are actual defenders of Russia, Putin, and trump's bizarre love affair with both, an infatuation that has yet to be explained, is shocking to me. How can they be so ignorant of recent history?

Yes, I can provide some details and these are accurate, haven't had to be retracted or anything like that.

(Some of these are actually on this bbs)

Now not only have these sources been traced back to Russian state run media, we know that Putin himself ordered the interference in the election. We know that from actual communications that were intercepted by our intelligence agencies.

And I know this is long, but in it there is sworn testimony about evidence about the intercepted communications showing that Putin himself ordered the interference in the election and that they attempt to hack into voting machines, voter registration rolls in almost every state of the union.

In that testimony he actually says that Putin directly ordered the hacking of the DNC. Again he knows this because they intercepted communications. Intercepted communications is pretty solid evidece.

This post caught my attention because I've frequently warned about the dangers of the Cold War mentality. The day after Trump's election one of the things that I said might be good about Trump is reducing tensions with Russia. Keep in mind that was before so much evidence of Russia's interference with our election was known.

I agree we need to be very careful about cold war thinking where we attribute every action by Russia as being inherently evil and just about global conquest. The Russians have never been the cartoon villians of the Evil Empire and the US has never been the hero in the white hat. That doesn't mean though that Russians are innocent and just misunderstood. They are clearly an adversary with goals that frequently are in opposition to us. Further their actions show that they don't respect or really believe in the soveriegnity of countries that were either part of the Soviet Union or in the Soviet Union's sphere of influence. If anything under Putin the Russians are clinging to a Cold War mindset more than most of the US.

I do strongly believe we need to be careful and pragmatic about our dealings with Russia but that doesn't mean that we ignore their violations of international law or clear evidence that they have attempted to undermine our governance. This is where Trump is failing horribly. It's bad enough that he is ignoring the evidence but that instead he claims it is all a hoax and cites it to go after domestic enemies. Even if you believe that we need better relations with the Russians his fragile ego, chaotic mindset and undisciplined rhetoric has made it harder than easier to deal with the Russians. If he kept his mouth shut and turned twitter off it's likely that Congress doesn't pass the sanctions bill with a veto proof majority.

It's hard to understand how Russia thinks they need more land. I suppose a good percentage is inhibitable (I don't know how much) but sheesh.

I claim Russia is an ally to the United States. We have shared interests in energy, technology, and spaceflight. We share common cause in the fight against islamic extremism.

Many people on this message board and this thread buy into the left-wing media driven cold-war fashioned view of Russia and claim it is an adversary of the U.S.

To them, I would like to ask a question:

Why would the Obama administration allow control of 20 percent of our nation's uranium to pass to an adversary? If Russia is an adversary, isn't that treasonous activity? The standard bearers of your party allowed 1/5th of U.S uranium rights to be transferred while at the same time receiving $145 million to the Clinton foundation. But when President Trump seeks to work together in common cause with them in resolving the ISIS mess that President Obama created, they're an adversary. Is that right?
