Clearly, many Muslim countries ban people from Israel, Jews and even people who have been to Israel from entering their country. I'm not in favor of Trump or anything he has done so far, including this ban, and nothing these Muslim countries do should serve as justification for acting just like them, but let's be real here: Many Muslim countries (and people from these countries) are complaining about practices they have been following in a worse way than what Trump's administration is doing here.

As the leader of the free world, we have higher standards of acceptance... Or we ought to.

Btw ATW I do respect you for not falling for the Trump bandwagon even though he is strong in his language with something you care about. I'm glad you can see through his 'tough language'.

Trump is a malignant narcissist, it's rather obvious.

Whether the hysteria on the left (both in the USA and internationally) about him will end up being fully justified, we will see. My hope is that checks and balances will work, and that some sensible things will come out of this administration. So far, it is not looking good.

Lady Gaga was clever. She included an excerpt from one of America's most famous protest songs, and hardly anyone caught it.

    This Land is Your Land.

This is from Guthrie's original lyrics:

"There was a big high wall there that tried to stop me. The sign was painted, said 'Private Property.' But on the backside, it didn't say nothing. This land was made for you and me.

    Someone did their homework.

I haven't read through the 16 pages or so of the thread yet. I'm not giving DJT any credit, but I will say that no President would have the balls to go after Saudi Arabia. Our economy is too intertwined with theirs; they own us. I don't like it, but there it is.

Now back to bashing Trump. He excluded various Muslim countries from his ban; he does business in them. But I guess President Bannon relented somewhat: "Gee, Steve, you know, I'm gonna have to put my foot down on this one....."

The entire Saudi GDP is smaller than Los Angeles's GDP.

I'm glad that you were able to get the point of the song. It is a song about excluding other folks. Well done.

[changing absolutely nobody's opinion, but ...]

My employer announced some impending staff layoffs in the coming months. Our school prioritizes a good % of international enrollment, for reasons both economic and mission-centric (i.e. exposing students to the modern world and preparing them for a global marketplace, etc.; also have extensive language-learning requirements).

Though we've been very economically sound for the last several decades, Trump's statements have already put an enormous dent, apparently, in our international numbers of enrolling students. So a budget shortfall next year is now assured.

B-Bob is not directly affected but some coworkers will lose their jobs. No exaggeration. Words matter, President Trump. Oh, and, #ThanksTrump!

Sorry to hear about that. It really sucks for everyone involved... Students, laid-off employees, employees that have to stay, etc. Too bad it's all for something so senseless.

There is hysteria from the left, and some of it isn't justified. However, there hasn't been a President that has such a lack of respect for the Constitution and the separation of powers in at least 75 years, and likely over a hundred years. We also live in a different time period and in the past there were immediate threats such as the Civil War, WWII/Depression or was so long ago (Jackson) that the real world consequences were more limited and the USA was still in it's infancy.

The recent direct attacks on the judicial branch by the President, the attacks on the media and the attacks on the actual election results all are extremely distressing and are undermining the US system.

Discussions to build a wall, or going after Iran, or having combative relations with foreign leaders are perhaps imprudent or in bad taste, but can be mended.....

Funny that consultancies known for their offshore operations take up most of the graph. They're mostly hired by companies outside silly valley. Fortune 100...500...etc.

Whether it's better for that immigrant workforce to work here or all offshore is a moot point. A good chunk of their consultants are garbage, but those companies who hire them can't lure or pay for the talent, homegrown or otherwise, that they need.

This is more than a demand constrained bottleneck. IT is constantly changing. It's possible to mint money with a fresh diploma but without constant refocus on the latest and greatest, the fear of those jobs you think H1B takes from you is your own doing.

Ask for less and take a little more on the technical side for a year. Then you're free to b**** about getting Office Spaced. That's as libertarian a workplace as you're going to get.
