Trump Signs Order to Restrict Refugees from 7 Countries But Not Saudi Arabia

If Rogue Twitter is to be believed, Bannon and by extension Trump wanted even more than this EO.

I would say Bannon and Miller have no place as the strategists of Trump or even in the White House, but alas he won because of their inflammatory ideas.

To be fair, Rogue Twitter did say correctly who Trump would nominate for SCOTUS. That was at best a 50% chance.

 

The Obama administration did not single out those seven countries because they were the greatest sources of terrorist danger in the world. Rather, it selected those nations because they were the most dangerous nations in the visa waiver program. The Obama order simply removed those nations from the visa waiver program, a program that gives preferential entry treatment to fewer than 40 countries across the globe, thus placing those seven nations on equal footing with most of the rest of the world.

And there was good reason, indeed perfect logic, for the absence of countries like Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Pakistan from the Obama administration’s executive order. Since Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Pakistan were not in the visa waiver program in the first place, they could hardly have been removed from it. The absence of those nations from the Obama list was not and could not have been based on an assessment that they posed less of a danger to the United States than the seven that were included. Indeed, one can reasonably infer the opposite, that the danger of individuals from those nations was so manifestly obvious that they were never allowed into the waiver program in the first place.

Yea Iranian Government sucks but the Iranian people are cool as hell. It's a shame what they have to live under.

 

I should point out that Trump has never held elected office nor served as a public servant or bureaucrat of any kind. Much of the initial confusion from the executive order may be a result of this inexperience, coupled with the whole "drain the swamp" mentality.

Did they? Does their ban include Green Card holders who have lived in the nation without problems for decades? Does it carve out special allowances for Christians or other "minorities" that the Trump order did? Did their leader speak about banning Muslims before taking power? Did he appoint someone to his counsel who openly worried about legal immigration and the Muslims (extremist or not) allowed to live in the United States?

 

I just learned that the visas for these nationals are now considered invalid. I know of at least a few dozen physicians and researchers from Iran, Iraq, and Syria who are directly affected by this here on a J1. What a ****ing disgrace.

 

It's not like Obama's some all knowing Solomon using Divine powers of thought to make these decisions.

Someone in the Trump admin is not giving a flying **** to the policy heads who gave the initial recommendation and context.

These are ultimately reckless moves designed to test the waters beyond a post 100 day presidency.
