People have been warning of this for years. Things are unfolding exactly the way we predicted. Even milquetoast Dem centrist senators regularly warned of this.

The media/information/tech /wall st alliance though was n the tank for Maga, arrogantly thinking oligarchy won't be so bad, that it just got downplayed. Stop overreacting. We survived Trump 1.

But this is different - this is the destruction of the US as we know it.

The same goes for his viewpoint of anyone LGBQT, and any other race and culture who were heroes in combat. I'm sure he would prefer to keep as many as he could behind that curtain of recognition.

 

All of the cities with the highest murder rates in the country are run by Democrats (in many cases for decades)

Trump taking over DC policing is an existential threat politically. If he for example drops the murder rate in DC from 19th highest to 100th, that is a powerful data point.

It's the same dynamic as Trump eliminating illegal border crossings in a short time after he took over from Biden's open border policy.

You didn't direct the question towards me - but no, I don't think that Washington DC or Chicago especially need to be cleaned up anymore than places like Oklahoma City, Miami, Jacksonville and any number of other cities.

The murder rate in DC is half of what it was 40 years, it is less than half of what it was 40 years ago in Chicago and NYC.

Where do you draw the line? How will you feel if in 4 years someone like Newsome is President and decides to occupy OKC based on a high crime rate? What about when the people in OKC say they don't want a Democrat policing their city?

It is a slippery slope. In the past we have had situations where a federal agency would investigate specific allegation in a city. For example, the Justice Department went into Chicago and investigated why there were so many police shootings based on claims of a 5th Amendment violation. However, this is completely different and pointedly political. I just don't think anyone long term is going to be happy with this and it sets poor precedent.

 

The worst thing he has done is erode any confidence in US institutions and the validity of law and principle. When you have a society that believes in the idea of "alternative facts" and conspiracy theories are cited in the SCOTUS, we are ****ed. No enemy from the outside could do that. Trump saw a hole in the yard and turned it into a pit.

They don't think that way. There is no "what if's" that include the Dems being in power in their minds. To them, this is permanent and the magats will run the country in perpetuity. They're likely still actively looking for ways for trump to run again and then put in to place something similar to what they've done in El Salvador.

Just remember to keep that same energy if Newsom or Pritzker is elected President and occupies states like Miss, Louisiana, Alabama and Missouri because Republican governors cannot control the violent crime in their states.

It isn't right that Trump is doing it now - It won't be right if the Democrats do it either.... but make sure you are at least consistent.

This argument is not politically tenable. No one in these high-crime blue cities interacts with state police, they don't have jurisdiction. To say nothing of GOP-run cities in those same states that don't have high crime rates.

If you want to argue governors should take over high crime city police departments ala Trump in DC, that's worth discussing.
