Are you kidding me. He gives an executive order lifting travel after he leaves office. Hey Trump nut riders tell me he is not trying to sabotage Biden and the country as a whole.

To be fair, those travels are less likely to have rona then Americans, but yeah overall travel right now should be discouraged.

I’d be interested in seeing our positive rates compared to Ireland’s. Right now we have 2x as many deaths as Ireland per capita, but of course this thing is a very fluid situation.

Like I said, I agree travel should be discouraged.

We have had this kind of rules for most of the time, including the summer tourist season and it works just fine.
They take also samples from flights after arrival and according to positivity rates they ban a few countries here and there for a few weeks.
But of course we were forced to do it by the Shengen rules not 3rd countries unless it's NZ, Singapore etc
Also if a flight is found positive you have to have the means and the plan to enforce quarantine of the passengers seated near.

What's the point for Trump to do it now since he knows it will be reversed anyway? Wasn't one of his arguments that "he protected america by banning flights to China and the world?"

What went wrong is they started lifting restrictions in Dec for holidays, and then cases skyrocketed after. I posted an article on this. Their lockdowns worked. Then the easements backfired, just like ours did since June.

Reckless’ Christmas easing of rules blamed for Ireland Covid surge

And no, Trump doesn't know what he's doing.

I doubt many real people will complain about it, only airlines. If people from Shengen want to go for tourism in the US you know they won't be able to come back home. Or will have to be quarantine for 2 weeks with heavy fines if they leave their house.

If this was a fake effort to boost tourism good luck with that because this will not be reciprocated.

This was my thought. The US government can lift all travel restrictions doesn't mean other countries will do the same for people coming from the US.

I was talking to my mom last night in Singapore and she was saying that she really wishes I could visit or she could visit the US. The US has no problem with flying to Singapore. Once I land Singapore will fine me $5,000 SGD and require me to quarantine in a hotel for 14 days at my own cost. And by quarantine not what we consider here in the US where I can go out and jog but not leave the hotel room.

The US has no problem with my mom coming from Singapore and she could do so today. As soon as she tried to go back to the Singapore they would fine her and force her into quarantine too.

NOt necessarily true & theUK and Brazil mutations are far more contagious and dangerous than most of the US viruses that we know of and pose great risk to already destroyed hospital system.

This ban should stay in place for the time being. I mean, even if they were 100% covid free, putting more people into the US who don't othewise live here is just increasing the pool of eventual spreaders.

    Look at the bright side.
You are allowed to actually land in Singapore and step foot outside eventually to meet your mother.
If you somehow managed to come here you would be detained in airport prison and sent back home at your own expense. This has happened with some brainless tourists.
And what about Australia that still doesn't allow thousands of its own citizens to return for almost a year now. Talk about your own country throwing you under the bus.

Biden to reinstate Covid-19-related travel restrictions lifted by Trump

    https://www.cnn.com/2021/01/24/politics/biden-coronavirus-travel-trump/index.html

Trump was not trying to make America great again. Funny the trump boot lickers are silent in this thread.

What are travel restrictions coming in gonna do at this point? I don't know if you guys know but the virus is here already

I understand there are variants but I still don't see restrictions as preventing anything at this point

Prevent or slow down deadlier variants to give time for vaccines to immunize the population. The timeline is getting clearer. Restriction is time limited and saves live.

It was obvious when he did this it was another attempt at undermining the transition. The UK variant was already known for awhile when he lifted the travel restriction. This was just to force Biden to reimpose them and then Trump and his supporters could claim "Democratic hypocrisy" over Democrats putting travel bans.
