With the election so close, will these disasters have an effect on people being able to vote? I am sure if places where the devastation is the worst polling places could be wiped out and people may still be without power or a place to call home..............hopefully we have enough time, but honestly, voting could be the last things on their minds I can see maga coming up with a few whoppers to make people believe there are shenanigans by those mean ole libs
trump missed a GOLDEN opportunity; he could have used this as a unifying event, instead he showed us who he is (for the billionth time) by lying about a natural disaster that affect all parties. maga will never unify to anyone other than other maga`s because there platform is based on division and hatred toward people who don't look like them or act like them
That's not what he said. He claimed he wasn't aware that she had called and wasn't sure who she called. The story about him not answering came from an aide of DeSantis. Regardless, this is pretty minor, especially since he stated they are collaborating effectively with the federal government to prepare for the storm. In stark contrast, Trump and several national Republicans are originating and spreading outrageous lies that create a flood of misinformation and disinformation regarding the federal response to the natural disaster and the federal funding available to the victims, thereby directly harming them.
regarding these 2: The Maximum immediate aid under Trump was $500, so it's actually 50% higher now under Biden. There is so much air traffic in the area that there were almost 30 near mid-air collisions in the last week.
Here he is saying she did not call him. Go to 3:45 in: "I'm in contact with the President, I'm in contact with the Director of Fema, in contact with the various state agencies.... Kamala has never called once in 3 1/2 years..."
Again, it's a minor issue. You are distracting from something trivial and shifting attention away from the significant harm caused by Trump. Whatever minor thing he, she or the news said pales in comparison to the 100% verifiable lies from Trump that harm the victims of a natural disaster. Ron DeSantis 'Didn't Know' Kamala Harris Called About Hurricane Milton - Newsweek You seem perfectly fine with what Trump did here.
Nah, you said she called, and when I pointed out she didn’t, you said I was mistaken. Now that I’ve provided video proof that Kamala never called DeSantis, despite her claims, it's being downplayed as a "minor issue." Some of Trump’s lies caused harm no question, but you defended Harris and now that it’s clear she didn’t call, it’s suddenly "minor." Accountability should apply to all politicians, not just when it fits the narrative.
The original claim was from DeSantis's aide.... I'm not really sure it's so clear purely based on DeSantis's word on Sean Hannity's program. This is the guy who is currently trying to "warn" TV stations not to air an ad regarding his abortion amendment. Sean Hannity is a known liar so I don't really give much credence to anything that comes from his program.
Thanks for saying this. These are some of Trump's documented lies: He lied when he said there are "no helicopters, no rescue" in NC. He lied when he claimed that Biden and Harris spent all of FEMA's money. He lied when he said that Biden and Harris stole $1 billion from FEMA and directed it to housing for immigrants. (He himself did this.) He lied when he stated that the federal government was only giving $750 to people who lost their homes. He lied when he claimed that Biden was refusing to help people in Republican-leaning regions. (He himself did this.) He lied when he said Biden is not taking calls from Republican governors in the disaster area. ...and so on... Because of all these lies, he has influenced a wave of additional misinformation and disinformation surrounding the federal response to the disaster and the resources available to victims. Local Republicans in the affected area are pleading and begging for this to stop. In isolation, maybe some of these lies don’t cause harm, but collectively, they absolutely have harmed the recovery efforts and the victims. We ought not to normalize this.
What we’ve learned from this shiit thread is that according to you clowns, Dems never lied and and they’re always telling the truth even when they lied.
This is from Republican Edwards of NC. The first one is especially CRAZY, but it seems to have picked up steam among the right online. Debunking Helene Response Myths | Congressman Chuck Edwards (house.gov) October 8, 2024 Press Release Dear Friend, Over the past 10 days, I have been proud of how our mountain communities have come together to help one another. We have seen a level of support that is unmatched by most any other disaster nationwide; but amidst all of the support, we have also seen an uptick in untrustworthy sources trying to spark chaos by sharing hoaxes, conspiracy theories, and hearsay about hurricane response efforts across our mountains. While it is true, the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s response to Hurricane Helene has had its shortfalls, I’m here to dispel the outrageous rumors that have been circulated online: Hurricane Helene was NOT geoengineered by the government to seize and access lithium deposits in Chimney Rock. Nobody can control the weather. Charles Konrad, director of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Southeast Regional Climate Center, has confirmed that no one has the technology or ability to geoengineer a hurricane. Current geoengineering technology can serve as a large-scale intervention to mitigate the negative consequences of naturally occurring weather phenomena, but it cannot be used to create or manipulate hurricanes. Local officials have confirmed the government is NOT seizing Chimney Rock. There was no “special meeting” held in Chimney Rock between federal, state or local governments about seizing the town. Local officials are NOT abandoning search and rescue efforts to bulldoze over Chimney Rock. Chimney Rock is NOT being bulldozed over. Rutherford County emergency services personnel are going to extensive lengths to search for missing people, including in debris by using cadaver dogs to locate any remains of individuals trapped in the debris. Just as every other community in Western North Carolina, Chimney Rock officials are focused first and foremost on recovery efforts, followed by plans to rebuild in the future. FEMA is NOT stopping trucks or vehicles with donations, confiscating or seizing supplies, or otherwise turning away donations. FEMA does not conduct vehicle stops or handle road closures with armed guards - all road closures are managed by local law enforcement who are prioritizing getting resources to their fellow community members. FEMA has NOT diverted disaster response funding to the border or foreign aid. Disaster response efforts and individual assistance are funded through the Disaster Relief Fund, which is a dedicated fund for disaster efforts. FEMA’s non-disaster related presence at the border has always been of major concern to me, even before Hurricane Helene, and I will continue to condemn their deployment of personnel to the southern border, but we must separate the two issues. FEMA is NOT going to run out of money. FEMA officials have repeatedly affirmed that the agency has enough money for immediate response and recovery needs over the next few months. Secretary Mayorkas’ statement indicating otherwise was an irresponsible attempt to politicize a tragedy for personal gain. In the coming months, Western North Carolina is going to need more disaster relief funding than is currently available to assist with recovery efforts. I’m confident that supplemental disaster relief funding, which I am already involved in the process of creating, will be considered in the House once we return to session in mid-November. FEMA cannot seize your property or land. Applying for disaster assistance does not grant FEMA or the federal government authority or ownership of your property or land. The FAA is NOT restricting access to airspace for Helene rescue and recovery operations. Nobody seeking to fly resources into Western North Carolina will be prohibited from doing so by the FAA or North Carolina Emergency Management so long as they coordinate their efforts with NC Aviation. If you are looking to conduct an airdrop of resources but don’t know who to contact for approval, please reach out to my office and we will share that information with you. FEMA is NOT only providing $750 to disaster survivors to support their recovery. The initial $750 provided to disaster survivors is an immediate type of assistance called Serious Needs Assistance that may be made to individuals in need as soon as they apply for FEMA assistance. The $750 is an upfront, flexible payment to help cover essential items like food, water, baby formula and medication while FEMA assesses the applicant’s eligibility for additional funds. This award is just the first step of a longer process to provide financial assistance to disaster survivors in need of federal support. As an application moves through the review process, individuals are eligible to receive additional forms of assistance for other needs such as temporary housing, personal property and home repair costs, etc. I encourage you to remember that everything you see on Facebook, X, or any other social media platform is not always fact. Please make sure you are fact checking what you read online with a reputable source. With my warmest regards, Chuck Edwards Member of Congress
We have massive education and digital literacy issues in this country. It's hard to believe people are stupid enough to believe something like that to the point where a Congressman has to say this.
The conspiracy theory that the government controls the weather isn’t new. What’s different this time is that, following the recent hurricane and its politicization by Trump, a theory once limited to 'flat-earther' fringe groups is now spreading. I wouldn’t be surprised if Russia is fueling this—sowing chaos and distrust in the U.S. government is one of their consistent tactics. ps Alex Jones has jumped on board, and his influence is a big reason why this absurd idea is gaining momentum.
A simple and obvious counter-example is: if you think the government can control the weather why is California in a drought?
Yeah, it's very logically obvious, but that doesn't work with conspiracy-minded folks. It takes quite a bit of effort to deconspiracize a belief.
