Yeah, the show is the point and making the court look biased via counsel's own bad behavior looks to be the plan. Why someone would set their legal career on fire for Trump? It keeps happening. He either bewitches them or makes crazy promises like "I could see you leading the DOJ sometime or becoming AG of the united states," etc. Rule breaking is part of the thrill, and he will keep seeing how far he can push rule breaking (for himself and his closest cronies). Ugly, ugly times ahead. Sigh.
I think this was even covered in My Cousin Vinny... somehow trump's lawyer missed it in first year law...
trump and his legal team are hoping to disqualify Judge Kaplan for his "open hostility towards trump"...
trump complaining over his social media company about being mistreated... always a victim, even in the crimes he commits...
Best part... he complains that Ms. Carroll's lawyer is a political operative, when his own lawyer is also the senior advisor to trump's campaign PAC (maga inc.). Every accusation is a confession...
Little things demonstrate trump's complete lack of respect for America's laws and legal system... he hires a woman who is clearly unskilled at trial law, and this...
trump's total disregard, dishonoring America's legal system should anger all Americans, but especially those who have worked to practice law...
Again I’m not a lawyer so I don’t know the standards of professional ethics but maybe @Nook and some of the other lawyers can add some more info. How these lawyers who either are gravely misrepresenting the law or don’t know it can keep their licenses is bewildering. For example recently I told a client that I wouldn’t sign off on something that the client wanted to do and the general contractor wanted because it would save money during construction. I told them no because in my professional opinion it was unsafe and it wouldn’t meet code. My fields professional Ethics would put my license at risk doing so even though the client wanted it. As a licensed professional my job isn’t to just please the client. I have a duty to ethics and to follow the law.
This is all a show, trump loves habba because she will bend the knee and partake in the craziness, it's all theatre and I hope the jury sees that and gives Carroll everything she is asking for and then some. The base eats it up because it pretends to show that trump is tough and wont take **** from the man.............LOL.
We had to professional ethics in law school and are expected to take CLE (continued learning education) on professional ethics as well. The technical guidelines and rules your profession has are likely very similar to my profession. The problem is that in practice, my profession there are so many areas of possible ethical issues. As a result, in practice, not all types of ethical violations are treated as the same. As a result, gray areas often do not result in punishment - plus, like police officers and public school teachers, lawyers tend to look out for each other. So as a result, misrepresenting the law or ignorance of the law is often times in practice viewed as just being a poor advocate or a zealous advocate. Can someone be sanctioned or lose their license? Yes, but 99% of the time lawyers get away with it.
Trump knows that what the Court says ultimately means nothing because he has never been held responsible for what he has done legally in his entire life. He has used the courts to shield assets and file bankruptcy. He has used the courts to sue people that have less assets than him and cannot afford substantial legal costs, so they roll over and give him what he wants. He also knows that he has gone from being extremely wealthy, to being possibly the most powerful man in the United States. He has been elected President of the United States, and he got away with a number of ethical and criminal offenses with no punishment - and he now knows that the only Court that can stop him is the SCOTUS. While it was a concern to him 6-7 years ago that they would rule against him, he now has the numbers and momentum and like a frog in boiling water, the American people and the SCOTUS are used to his antics. There is a very real chance that there isn't any legal court in the USA that will stop him - so his flippant and defiant attitude is not shocking to me.
