While its easy to shrug this off as trump is anti-science, the still empty administration role (after over a year in office!) is important for economic reasons...

Well, to 45's credit, there's not much that's very important that science addresses: pandemics, cancer, energy, computer science, climate, and extinction-level astronomical events ... really not much to see here. I, too, would be tempted to just put in destruction-minded cronies in those more important positions.

Acting CDC Director Anne Schuchat and Vice Admiral Jerome Adams (the Surgeon General) can probably give some advice on these topics.
While one might have some qualms about Rick Perry, there are about a dozen undersecretaries, deputy secretaries, etc. of Energy that can chip in here.
USCYBERCOMMAND is chock full of people that are well versed in Computer Science.
Trump hasn't yet defunded NASA and NORAD has he? What about NOAA?

Trump has been an embarrassment as President (that's why I didn't vote for him), but let's not pretend that lacking a science advisor means Trump is unable to get information about anything that falls under the umbrella of science. Heck, not having a science advisor might mean that the people who know something about science get a little more freedom to work because there is no one convenient person for the Donald to interact with that is going to let him muck things up which he doesn't understand.

Not that it matters. Trump won't be listening to any science advisers regardless of what part of the government they're in.

Getting harder and harder to disagree with this statement (the list I'd exclude is getting smaller... Haley, maybe Tillerson, perhaps McMaster?).

Yeah, deep state liberal stooge Bruce freaking Bartlett is saying this:

I can't think of a single Trump cabinet secretary who isn't the worst person ever to hold that position in departmental history.

Just another data point in the "who the hell still supports this guy?" narrative.
