That was the most amazing **** show of a speech ever by Trump. Just amazing! I kept waiting for http://youtu.be/8f2v3iQLjqk to come out after Trump was slinging the water around during his imitation of Rubio.
robbie380, why wait? <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/jkghtyxZ6rc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Ladies and gentlemen! The future POTUS! All hail, Idiocracy Uber Alles!
Oh, okay, Donald. Won't release tax returns citing ongoing audits, even though that doesn't prevent him from releasing returns. Sure there's nothing alarming in there. And I mean, an IRS audit isn't a big deal. Happens to what, less than 1% of Americans?
I can't wait! I don't even care anymore lol. Trump is an atheist, corrupt, northeastern liberal. Hillary is a corrupt moderate liberal. Who knows where either of the two really stand on anything. They are almost both the same to me except Trump is a lot more fun and fun matters. But for real I seriously put the odds of Trump winning the general election around 50/50. Hillary is simply not inspiring. The underlying trends do not look good for the Dems with voter turnout in the primaries. Also, the economy is showing some fractures that may become more apparent by election time. Trump might do something to really **** this up, but absolutely nothing has slowed him down. I might be way off, but that's the odds that popped into my head when I first thought about it. It's crazy, but I think it's a reality that some people aren't really accepting.
What bothers me the most about both Trump and Cruz is that I don't think they are genuine at all. And it bothers me to see cynical individuals winning over the people.
If the Donald is the POTUS, white house twitter would be fun every day and the whole world would be laughing at us.
He's always been a very petty, spiteful guy - why do you think his people ordered those bridge lane closings? Chris Christie is all about payback, this one is to the GOP establishment for throwing in with Rubio. Also, for him, who cares? The GOP of today has rejected him by voting against him almost unanimously in most states - he can't go any further there. Might as well throw in with Trump.
The brilliant thing about Trump is that for 8 years conservative talk radio and Fox News have pumped up the volume on anger and discontent with lies, exaggerations, and irrational nonsense to the degree that Trump just slips in without a detailed plan for anything and taps into this nonsense with slogans. The perfect highlight to this tactic in the debate last night was when Trump was being pinned down on how to deal with the deficit. Trump said he would close the EPA (what a wonderful idea!) and the department of education and then Blitzer gave the actual financial figures for both which would do relatively little to deal with the deficit. Trump then went classic Republican slogan with abuse, fraud, and waste. He basically feeds everyone the same BS slogans that are popular with conservatives. It was brilliant and hilarious at the same time. Trump's success has everything to do with how conservatives have pushed nonsense for a long time now. This is the result of their work and where a significant segment of the Republican party has shifted. Idiocracy in effect.
What inappropriate journalism to point out that the speaker is completely full of sh-t - I expect THE COMMODORE to be all over this.
So is Kasich going to be the VP for Trump? I thought it would be Rubio, but that is out the window after these past couple days. I doubt he could get Icahn as a his treasury secretary, but that's who he has been pushing for. My god the amount of **** talking would be amazing between Trump, Christie, and Icahn.
I think it has much more to do with politics being theater due to the screaming heads on TV 24/7. No screaming heads can out scream Trump. I thought Cruz could out smarm anyone but I was dead wrong.
Best concise explanation to date on the Trump effect. I often wonder if Trump is playing into that masterfully or he has completely bought into the nonsenses himself.
I think that is the money question, there, txtony. The only real way to know that is if Donald Trump is elected President of the United States. And then he has to govern. "Winning" isn't the same thing as governing. As ridiculous as Trump himself sounds and acts...I have no doubt that he's aware of that. ...at any rate, I get the feeling we'll all know soon enough...
Thread is depressing. I guess all we can hope for is that he does bring in Kasich as his VP and let's him actually be President by proxy.
Both. Trump is a master showman but he is first and foremost about Trump. It takes a fair amount of megalomania to run for President but Trump is bringing this to new levels.
I've said I'm not actually so worried about a specific legislative agenda from Trump and I agree that his personal history has shown he is actually much more of a moderate to a liberal than how he is campaigning now. I feel fairly confident though that a Trump Presidency will be a cult of personality and be much more similar in style to Vladimir Putin than than it will to other US Presidencies. It will be about aggrandizing the man more than the office and close identification of loyalty and patriotism to the individual. Also many people like to talk about running government like a business but government can't be run like a business and given Trump's business history this is especially the case. As Trump himself boast he has pulled out of failing and difficult ventures and also used bankruptcy laws to his advantage. The US government can't do that. If Medicare is having a shortfall the government can't just pull out of Medicare and it also can't declare bankruptcy to get out of debts. Congress doesn't operate like a board and the President isn't a chairman of the board. If you look at almost every recent modern US president between how they looked on their inauguration versus what they look like a few years within the office it is very obvious that being President takes a toll. I'm not sure how Trump who's lived a life of luxury and prides himself on the extravagance of that lifestyle will be handle the stress of a steady stream of life and death decisions where bombast or money want solve them and almost any course of action will be met with harsh criticism from one party or the other.
