well kobe does contribute to society (in LA, he has a lot of those camps to help LA inner city kids, he donates a lot of money to charities that you don't know of but obviously known to people living here...). that's why i don't get into athletes' or celebrities' personal lives b/c you really don't know how they are really off the court. you have to live with kobe or yao for more than a few hours on TV to really know who they are.
You have a good point, maybe I judged him too harshly. His public persona just doesn't seem like Yao. You are right, only the people close to him really know. No doubt, he is currently the best basketball talent in the world.
