I don't think Rafer was a bad defender before Houston. He started for SVG in Miami and SVG is pretty defensive minded. Maybe selective memory on my part.

Anyhow, I agree Martin has the tools to improve. He seems to have pretty decent quickness and is eager to fit in. Part of his issue is lack of strength in 1-on-1 situations, but that's not really that much of a problem as long as he plays good team D and so do the rest of the guys. I don't think Kevn Martin gets outmuscled nearly as much as, say, Luther Head (who was both too skinny and too short), did. Martin probably has quite a bit of bad habits to unlearn, but I am hopeful he can do it.

This writer he is an idiot he knows nothing about basketball.

He is one of the worst defenders in the league. Sometimes it looks like he trying and sucks. Other times he is just running back to score.

My memory is that he was mediocre when he arrived, but I'm always willing to listen to differing opinions... nah, he sucked! :p

    Andres Nocioni a bad defender?

Anybody that play for Sacramento at the SF is a bad defender. The guy have been tough and dedicated to play defense. The problem Sac town is not dedicated to play any defense as a team. And many time they go small and he play PF, not sure who they can keep track of who is his defender =, especially if they play a lot of zone.

You can't rate defensive player with number is impossible. (example: Camby won DPOY) Battier will always be our worst defender becuase he play defense on the other teams best player mostly one on one, while Dirk will be on of the best becuase he is always assigned to play the other team worst offensive big man like the Chuck Hayes of the world and will always get hide or get weak side help is he is in a one on one situation vs a good player.

How in the hell did no Toronto Raptor make the list - weren't they one of the worst defenses? Hedo was particularly awful this year.

I think you misread his post. He meant to add Rondo to the list of people who have burned Derek Fisher.

I am not sure he learned as much as he was taught.

JVG demanded his players play defense in order to be on the floor. They did not have a choice. RA doesn't enforce the same policy.

It's no coincidence that Thibodeau went to the Celtics and all of a sudden they had like the number one defense.
