Somebody educate me. Is he a Luther Head clone or is there more to his game than that?

    PROS:
    - Daniels is bigger and stronger than Head. Daniels has the size to play the 1 and 2 and guard stronger SG's. He is a good 2 inches and 20 pounds heavier than Head.

    - Daniels has a better game within the paint. He has the ability to finish inside well unlike Head.

    - Daniels is longer and shoots farther off the ground than Head which makes him harder to defend than Head, it should translate well to the NBA.

    - Daniels game is still blossoming, the question is how much better will it get? He has diversified more, and is actually shooting less 3's (75%) than he did in college (89%).

CONS:- He cannot put the ball on the floor as well as Head.

    - He is not as quick as Head.

    OVERALL:
Daniels has already exceeded the expectations almost anyone had for him. He went from a non prospect as a sophmore and junior in high school to strickly a gunner in college, to a high usage off guard for the Vipers.

Daniels body has gotten stronger, and he has gotten far better at contributing beyond just 3's. He is similar to JJ Reddick in that he gets the idea that he needs to do more than shoot 3's.

Yeah I'm hoping his game should translate to the NBA. I don't see a reason why it shouldn't. Hopefully he and Hamilton take Garcia and Casspi's minutes.

    Lin
    Daniels
    Hamilton
    DMO
    Asik

I like it. Anything would be better than Casspi and Garcia at this point.

Oh and let's not forget covington. He could play some 3 and 4 as well.

I'm really hoping for an injury-replacement situation where Casspi and Garcia get nicked up, and Troy steps in and excels. As others have said, 40% on 13 attempts is astounding! The addition of a true knockdown shooter to this team would elevate our offense tremendously.

If you think about it, we've never really had a pure, elite, knockdown shooter since our offense has quickened its pace under McHale: Delfino- very streaky, Casspi- same, Garcia- nope, Parsons- above-average, Harden-above average, Brooks- above average amongst others.

Yes... The thing about Daniels is that, in order to shoot 13 attempts from the arc a game, a higher than usual proportion of them has to be contested and/or several feet beyond the arc. This isn't a situation where a guy mostly wait for wide open corner 3s and pass up the shot if there is any kind of contest.

The Vipers are shooting 3s at a pace that would shatter records by a big margin, they cannot possibly be very selective about only shooting open ones and cannot possibly create that many wide open 3s.

I hope he gets the call and succeeds. Let's keep in mind though it's still the d league. Greg smith and t jones look like men amongst boys when they played there.

Thanks for the breakdown, Nook. I'd rep you if it would let me.

By and large, sounds good. Obviously, we're a 3&D team which comes with fairly straightforward expectations.

P.S. I'm a little terrified if Luther Head was better at creating his own offense than Daniels currently is

Don't embarrass yourself. Go look up Larry's stats while he was playing first.

D-L is D-L. Any low tier NBA player will dominate in D-L. Even when Covington and Canaan are dominating in the D-L they are not very useful in the NBA.

I just hope we get more blowout games (in which we are winning!) so all the rookies on the bench gets to experience the playing atmosphere. Sitting on the sideline cheering is never the same.

It is of little consequence if he does not become an effective NBA player...his contract isn't guaranteed beyond this year.

I don't know if this is meant to be a knock or an endorsement of Daniels. Even though he probably gets a lot of contested shots, he is still hitting over 40%. Daniels will probably have to dial it back to say six 3 pointers per 36 minutes. Will dialing it back improve his shot selection? And RGV does get a lot of open looks based on fast pace and almost everyone being able to hit threes.

I am hoping he will be an astonishment like Patrick Beverly.

    Please!!

We really need some 3 point shooting.

It's meant to be an endorsement.

40% is a good number. Buy to have Morey list him as being at the top 2 with Novak among all Rockets and Vipers players that he's ever had, 40% by itself is not a unique number.

Being able to shoot 40% despite taking harder than usual 3s is what makes him good.
