It's always "AROUND" the main storm's eye that gets the most water. Like... us... the Valley... etc. Isn't it?
It's raining at my house in Pearland, I have a steady wind of 7.0mph with gusts up to 12mph. No damage to report yet.
My parents installed a whole house generator after Ike. It automatically kicks in whenever the electricity goes out and runs off of natural gas so you don't have to ever worry about going to the gas station. The whole setup cost around $5k with installation... ...I personally thought it was a waste of money considering how rarely electricity will actually go out for more than a couple of hours. Instead i would take the 5k and take a trip to Hawaii the next time a hurricane actually hits...
Did your dad teach high school or something? I remember a couple of years ago after Ike one of my high school teachers told me he spent 5,000 on a system like that lol. I mean it's not completely a waste, for some people that's useful. Especially for people who who have medical conditions.
not necessarily. usually the worst storms, and often the wettest, are east of the eye...they call it the "dirty side" of the storm.
I am a little late on my responce, but obviously not, Don was a dud. It looked at one point like it was going to strengten but it didn't. However, the season is young. Look at the weather sattelite and you will see a very healthy developing storm in the middle Atlantic and a monster cluster of thunderstorms coming off the African coast. There is a disturbance in the Carib. but doesn't look like it is going to develop. From now to late October, keep an eye on the sky.
All of the models are starting to trend west. Florida has to watch this one closely. It's path takes it right through the Hebert Box. Take a look at what's off the coast of Africa. This is an impressive looking wave. Perhaps this will be Franklin?
