1. SHOWER ACTIVITY ASSOCIATED WITH A LOW PRESSURE AREA LOCATED ABOUT 315 MILES EAST OF CHETUMAL MEXICO CONTINUES TO BECOME BETTER ORGANIZED...AND AN AIR FORCE RESERVE HURRICANE HURRICANE HUNTER AIRCRAFT IS CURRENTLY EN ROUTE TO DETERMINE IF A TROPICAL CYCLONE HAS FORMED. THE SYSTEM IS MOVING TOWARD THE WEST-NORTHWEST NEAR 15 MPH...AND INTERESTS IN THE YUCATAN PENINSULA OF MEXICO AND BELIZE SHOULD MONITOR THE PROGRESS OF THIS SYSTEM AS WARNINGS MAY BE NEEDED FOR PORTIONS OF THIS AREA THIS AFTERNOON. THERE IS A HIGH CHANCE...90 PERCENT...OF THIS SYSTEM BECOMING A TROPICAL CYCLONE DURING THE NEXT 48 HOURS. REGARDLESS OF DEVELOPMENT...LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL IS POSSIBLE OVER PORTIONS OF JAMAICA...CUBA...THE CAYMAN ISLANDS...THE YUCATAN PENINSULA...AND BELIZE DURING THE NEXT DAY OR TWO. THESE RAINS COULD CAUSE LIFE-THREATENING FLASH FLOODS AND MUD SLIDES...ESPECIALLY IN AREAS OF MOUNTAINOUS TERRAIN.
92L is going to be under the influence of a ridge of high pressure that is over Texas and the western Gulf of Mexico. It won't be moving for about a week, so it should steer 92L west and maybe even south of west into Mexico after it emerges from the Yucatan. We have 2-3 weeks left of real concern for Texas before we'll be done for another year.
Loved the rain last week from Hermaine.......what a great Hurricane season, just nothing to talk about. DD
There will be another tropical wave moving off Africa in a few days but nothing I've heard about beyond that.
LOL! http://blogs.chron.com/sciguy/archives/2010/09/post_182.html da1 would just wet his pants just reading this...a possible texas storm! GASP. Definitely something to watch. All in seriousness, this year season predictions are almost accurate.
So now, we're supposed to "watch" a storm that may or may not develop 10 days from now. Talk about grasping at straws.
fear, fear, fear, fear, fear, fear, fear, fear, fear, fear, fear, fear, fear, fear, fear, fear, fear, fear, fear, fear, fear, fear, fear, fear, fear, fear, fear, fear, fear, fear, fear, fear, fear, fear, fear, fear, fear, fear, fear, fear, fear, fear, fear, fear, fear,
I have a flu-like virus right now. I haven't felt the urge to bite anyone just yet. But we should probably be mindful of potential zombie apocalypse.
haha, don't remember that. latest eric's blog...OMG no "this bears watching" or "For now". http://blogs.chron.com/sciguy/archi..._tropics_and_texas_narrowing_window_of_o.html i love that this thread turned out to "what will Eric say this morning?
Further proof of Jeff Masters' sensationalism. Seems like the guy blows a load in his pants every time there's a named storm.
It may or may not rain 10 days from now. So be prepared to take an umbrella to work on that day. Or maybe not. It might be sunny. Just be careful, is what I'm saying.
It's not sensationalism to suggest it exploded. It did. To go from a tropical storm to a category 3 hurricane LITERALLY overnight is the definition of explosive weather. It's also the southernmost hurricane we've ever seen in the Gulf of Mexico. I was even one to question whether or not this season - predicted by many to be a doozy - was going to live up to predictions, but we have already surpassed 2004 and 2005 for major hurricanes by September 13 and every indication is that this season could stretch well into October given the record high sea surface temperatures. We've just been lucky thus far that upper level steering patterns and dry air have kept storms from impacting us closer to home, but it is clear the 2010 hurricane season is far from over.
