If by "evacuate" you mean slap yourself in the face really hard, then yes you need to evacuate. Computer models are starting to show a system possibly developing in the SW Caribbean and off the east coast of the US. Both systems if they develop would have no chance of affecting the US but the SW Caribbean one could be a real problem for Haiti. They obviously don't need flooding rains from something like this.
NHC just put out their prediction on the Atlantic Hurricane Season. Full report: http://www.cpc.noaa.gov/products/outlooks/hurricane.shtml As predicted by most, looks like it's going to very active in the Atlantic and possibly the Gulf.
The need to evacuate is the chron.com blog thing where some person asked if they needed to evac all the way in Katy.
maybe he missed it and didn't see it the first time. i miss some of the inside jokes and memes sometimes.
true, but still...asking if i should evacuate when only an article was talking about the hurricane season seems pretty obvious that is was a just a little wise crack. Calling for someone to slap themselves is ridiculous....i mean, i went ahead and slapped myself, but still...it was ridiculous. Anywho. I enjoyed the lack of activity from last hurricane season. I'm hoping for another one of those. However, there will be plenty of reports talking about how bad it will be...just like they did last year.
NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center issued its seasonal Atlantic Basin Hurricane forecast earlier today. Across the entire Atlantic Basin for the six-month season, which begins June 1, NOAA is projecting a 70 percent probability of the following ranges: - 14 to 23 Named Storms (top winds of 39 mph or higher), including: - 8 to 14 Hurricanes (top winds of 74 mph or higher), of which: - 3 to 7 could be Major Hurricanes (Category 3, 4 or 5; winds of at least 111 mph).
I don't think any big sources reported how bad it was going to be last season, in fact, it was the opposite. This season, there's actually reasoning behind because el niño is gone now. There weren't signs of a more active season last season as there are this season.
The Atlantic sea surface temperatures are as high as they normally are in July, so it could be a VERY active season. The same is not true of the Gulf and the Caribbean, fortunately. They are at or slightly below normal levels and rising. Eric Berger had a really good blog post about how a hurricane would impact an oil spill and vice versa. The short answer is - very little - outside of storm surge carrying a lot of oil on shore more quickly than the current slow drift. Personally, I think it will be a busy season, but I'm waiting to see what the prediction is for the Bermuda High, which is a major factor in determining whether or not Atlantic basin storms stay out in the Atlantic or curve westward toward the Caribbean and the Gulf.
Which reports from last year are you referring to? Links? Last year was forecast to be below average and it was. This year is forecast to be above average and we shall see.
Jeff, check out Joe Bastardi's videos from accuweather. He goes into great detail about why he is expecting a busy season. I know I learned alot from them.
God, I hate Hurricane season, because the media tries to scare the crap out of us for the entire summer. You make all the preps you can and don't worry about something you can't control. That's it. That's all there is to it. .
Got a possible tropical storm brewing. Could possibly enter the Gulf of Mexico but too early to tell. NHC has it at about 60% formation because of the warm waters.
Saw that earlier today, I just hope it takes the northern track away from the Houston/Galveston area.
My maintenance guy and cleaning lady needs to evacuate to Mexico! Glad I had my wedding last month down in the Yucatan. I like this time of year because I get to read Masters blog every morning on wunderground. Here's hoping to a busy season but without destruction (lots of fish storms)...is that possible?
Yeah, there's so much WRONG with that sentence, madam... But this... this, for sure, I couldn't resist answering: Pics or it didn't happen!
Or they are just tired of hearing the same lame ass joke being told every time the word "hurricane" is mentioned. At least when Swoly uses the "thats what she said," sometimes I laugh because of the context it was used in and his creativity in using it. Not trying to be rude, but the joke is just lame, repetitive, and not creative.......especially when it is used every 5 minutes on chron.com or here.
