Sci Guy? is that you?? let's 1. wait until it develops 2. see where it tracks for a while before we start worrying about whether it's going to impact Houston/Galveston!
I am encouraged by a series of early fronts coming through in the last week or two, another scheduled to roll through late tomorrow. This pattern does not usually set up until late September or October and may serve to steer systems away from the Texas gulf coast during our peak hurricane season.
I would keep an eye on that in the rear view mirror as I was evacuating -- no need to take careless chances Lady Di.
I wonder if Mr. Brightside is still in Antigua. From the latest blog on UW... Gaston Once Earl moves past Nova Scotia, this is the storm to watch in the tropical Atlantic. While it is far out at sea (more than 6 days to affect land), some computer models suggest Gaston could affect the Bahamas or the Caribbean. Statistical intensity forecast models (LGEM and SHIPS) rapidly intensify Gaston, but the dynamical models (HWRF, GFDL) do not. This storm will be worth watching over the next week or so.
The latest Dr. Master's update this afternoon said Gaston has been destroyed by windshear and dry air. We no longer have to keep an eye on it.
I sometimes find myself wondering what types of things I should also keep an eye on. For instance, this is something I think is also worth keeping an eye on: Spoiler
^^^ Okay...now I feel guilty about perv-ing up a perfectly useful thread about the tropics...but I saw that Gaston is breaking up a little so I got excited. When I get excited, I think of Christina.
From the Chronic. For now? For now? Why yes, Gaston is no longer a concern, but it might re-develop, so keep visiting my blog to stay up to date on the latest news concerning the improbable odds of Houston being hit by this currently non existent threat to our city.
ABC 13 sent a local reporter to North Carolina to cover Earl ... I suppose to keep Sam Champion company.
