I'm headed to Singapore in a few weeks for business and I'm curious if anybody has been and what kinds of things are must do's. I figure I'll do a little shopping as I hear you can find things for a good price. Maybe go to a tailor and get some suits or dress shirts made. Any recommendations?

Nothing is cheaper in Singapore than in the US except food. Its a good place to buy stuff if you live in other parts of Asia but there is no place cheaper than the US for name brand stuff.

In Singapore, there isn't much to do other than eat, hang out at big shoppoing malls and hook up with prostitutes(if you are into that kind of stuff). The zoo is pretty cool.

There's a new casino, and sentosa island is a touristy hangout if you're into that kind of stuff (can be on the expensive side, but I hear it's fun). There are a lot of clubs, but alcohol is expensive (heavily taxed). For computer parts, Sim Lim Sq is the place, but try to avoid the first 2 floors (sales ppl will try to gouge foreigners). For electronics it's probably safer to go to a proper electronics chain at the shopping malls. Like rockbox said, the zoo is pretty good, and can take up half a day. There's a night "safari" too.

Singapore is not cheap. Other parts of Asia can be much cheaper.

    Jurong Bird Park
    The zoo
Sentosa Island theme park + beach
    Street side eats
    Food court eats
Harbourfront might have some good shows going on
Old Chang Ki - try their fried seafoods

^^^ pretty much said it: shopping is not really that much cheaper there than here except for food, so that would be one of the main things to enjoy.

If you like to hangout in the pubs and meet some Asian chicks and dont mind the price of your drinks, Clarke Quay is the place to go.

The first time I ever ate crawfish was when I was living in Singapore. They only brought out the tails and they were huge, as big as lobster tails. When I got back to Houston, I went to the Ragin' Cajun' and was very disappointed when I saw the size of American crawfish.

Anyway, there was an area of town with about 20 seafood restaurants on the southern part of the island, close to Sentosa Island, and we always went to one called East Ocean Seafood Reastaurant. Highly recommend the pepper crab.

Others have mentioned the zoo. Eating breakfast with the orangutans was pretty cool.

Haven't been there in 15 years so I don't remember a lot. Sorry.

YOu should not miss GEYLANG. Nice place to hang out.

Then go to a hawker center that server Chili Crab, the best.

Shopping? Be careful when shopping electronics.... before yuou leave the store, make sure to check the plastic bag and see that what you have is what you bought.... they're bad asses. I worked there fo 2 years. I bought a camera once and shook hands with those guys and when I got home, i got something else and return is a tough stuff.

I went there in '08... you could probably do everything there is to do there in 2-3 days. Anything longer than that just gets repetitious and boring. True story on the costs there. It's not cheap at all. Travel to neighboring SE Asian countries if you want good deals.

Also they just opened a Universal Studios there. It was still under construction when I went there last. So might as well check that out if you're into that kinda stuff.
