questions: where do you live in the city? what kind of career opportunities are you seeking? why are you such a p***y?
I happen to have a love for all three of the cities we are discussing, they are the main three towns I have ever lived in... I just dont think your advice is accurate, nor do i concur that violence is worse in NYC than in Houston... you definitely have a John Rocker approach to living in the city, you sure you're cut out for it?
me too... new york is not for everyone, no doubt. i actually feel sorry for the guy because if you don't love new york and you try to have a career here, well, you are gonna be in a world of misery, it's a tough town.
I can imagine Creepy Floyd sitting in his run-down shoebox apartment in his old green jacket, pointing a large caliber revolver at his TV screen, waiting for the rain to come and clean these filthy streets.
the hate.....what is this clutchfans' version of dave chappelle's playahater's ball...haha, you guys are great i didn't realize nyc had so many different tourism ministers either....haha you guys act like i insulted you all personally i dont think i said anything that was factually incorrect and i actually live in a nice apt by nyc standards in a nice area, but i also pay nyc rent as well, thus, i'm doing fine, but that doesn't mean i can't complain or criticize what i dont like about the city....there are also things i dont like about htown and austin either, but this is a thread about nyc saying i have a john rocker approach is baseless, that's one of the things i do like about nyc, the diversity...i never made any racist comments, all i said was that the subways are dirty and infested with rats....thats the truth maybe deep down inside you guys are bitter that the rockets beat the knicks for their 1st championship there are good career opportunities here, but i'd much rather be in houston or austin....i would also pick la over nyc as well.....just my opinion
Man, I hate New York with a freaking passion (after spending 5 miserable years there), but even I can admit that the city is pretty damn safe. Dirty, smelly, and filled with self-absorbed assholes? Yes. Crime-ridden? No. Giuliani's Draconian methods got the job done. This ain't your father's New York City: According to Sperling's, New York is the actually the 14th least crime-filled large metro area in the country. Austin and Houston? Uh, you don't wanna know. According to this site, New York is the 31st most dangerous state. Texas? 11th. And Morgan Quitno Press, who does this kind of ranking stuff every year, says New York City is actually the 4th safest big city (population over 500,000) in the country. Dallas is the 5th most dangerous, and Houston is close behind as 9th worst. Facts 1, You 0
austin is safer than all of them according to your own source.....one of these guys (across110thst is his name i think) was complaining about getting mugged in austin...and i also made the point that crime in austin is not even comparable to crime in nyc, i'm glad your source verified that for me
How is Dallas more dangerous than Houston??! Not that I'm complaining, haha, but that is kind of hard to believe...
Also, what exactly did Giuliani do that rid the city of crime and crack whores? I have to agree, NYC seemed VERY different in the movies from the 70s and 80s than it does in movies today...
southern bred surburban boys like me should be completely at ease in the new york city of 2006. i mean, there are kmarts, bed bath & beyonds, whole foods, jamba juices and hell, even seven elevens all over the damm place. it's not what it used to be. yeah, sure you can pretend that nyc is still, you know, teeming with bohemians churning out the next post-neo-modern art scene... but all the live music venues have closed down in favor of boutiques and apartments, art galleries now get their stuff from philadephia and raleigh.. etc. what's left now are upstart hipsters smoking their first joints in the lower east side of williamsburg, pretending to care about stuff put out by new yorkers 10, 20 years ago. time square is disneyfied. columbus circle is a mall. so creepy floyd-ites, y'all should take a stroll in manhattan sometimes and see that it's not so bad... it's practically like all the other cities that you love. give it some time, and perhaps all the neighborhoods will be homogenized and you'll see overpasses (like the lovely ones in houston) built to acccomdate subway-phobes like yourself and me.
"100 Largest Metro Areas (Ranked in order from Least to Most Crime) " read the stats again, austin and houston are both below NYC youre digging a hole you cant get out of... dude, we're all Rockets fans here...
well you're right for once i just disagree...crime in austin is nonexistent when compared to nyc....if anybody denys that, then they just have their head in the ground i'm doubting your authenticity as a rockets fan as well
I've been living up here in NY for the past Ten Years. I'm actually building a house in Spring, Tx and will be super commuting every week between NY and Houston. I love both cities. I make good money here but I'm getting a huge house in Spring that I could not get here in the Tri-state area. With that being said, When you come to NY....Here are my secret spots to go to. FAVORITE ITALIAN RESTAURANT... Emilio Ballato's 55 E Houston st. between Mott and Mulberry. This place is old fashion Italian at its best. It's a small place and the owner is always there but you don't need a reservation. Great food, prompt service, and they have THE BEST Cannoli's in town - PERIOD! You can't go wrong! FAVORITE CHINESE FOOD SPOT Wo Hop 17 Mott Street (chinatown) I find this place to be the BEST after you are coming from a lounge, club, etc. They have been around since 1934 and have been feeding Cops, Firemen, Celebrities, etc. 24 hours a day 7 days a week. The place is small but they are superquick. Be sure you go to the Wo Hop DOWNSTAIRS. You'll see two fire engine red walls heading down. All of their Rice Dishes are under $4. I recommend the Ribs with Black Bean Sauce over White rice. Regardless, anything you get is AWESOME! Be sure to get their famous Wo Hop T-Shirt which costs about $8. If you have a picture of yourself, they will place it on their wall too. You can see my photo with my group - MYNT on the wall to the left going towards the bathroom. NEW SUSHI SPOT NINJA SUSHI 25 Hudson St. between Duane and Reade Street (212)274-8500 Without spoiling the fun, they put on a real good show for you. The servers are dressed up as Ninjas - that's all I'll say. You should check it out for yourself. You need reservations for this place and it is a lil bit on the PRICEY side but it's worth it! All the rooms are initimate and are different. Definitely check it out! FINALLY....CLUBS TO HIT... It depends on what you are looking for and also depends on the night that you go. Obviously, the places that everyone talks about include Lotus Aer Marquis Home But for the big superclubs, definitely check out Crobar Pacha Spirit For the more Touristy spots and more Mainstream Webster Hall I DJ at various spots around the Tri-state Area but usually around NJ and Long Island. If you feel adventurous to come out to LI check out my club MIRAGE on a Saturday night. www.mirageli.com I'll put you and whoever on a guest list and take care of ya! www.myspace.com/deejayriddler HOPE THAT HELPED!
So you're saying that all of us who moved to NYC from Houston are Knicks fans now? Them's fighting words.
good post ROCKET RICH NYC. i'm definitely checking out those restaurant recommendations. mmmm, ninja.
