    cha!

Be prepared to drop some serious coin. Easily $400 or higher for a meal for two. But it is amazing!

fba34 I know you've booked but this site is pretty cool to check out http://www.hostels.com/en/us.ny.ny.html

Amsterdam ave is fine. You'll be doing some walking though. And don't listen to texxxie! Once you get past the Chutzpah, you'll find NYers are some dam fine people.

I like that New Yorkers seem like they are angry all the time. It seems more normal. People being super friendly in Texas gets kind of old after a while, even annoying - sometimes even fake.

pfft. Sam, real New Yorkers aren't from Oak Forest in Houston, TX. Sorry I missed the Late Show allusions. Leno kicks his butt, so I don't watch him.

We aren't angry! Just have something to do, somewhere to go, people to see. Got something to say? Say it! Don't waste my time. Don't got something to say? Now you are wasting my time! Putz!

    ;)

LoL!! I agree it's not going to be a cheap proposal, but nothing with this girl ever is :D

She's working with a bunch of people who are already either engaged or married and though they don't care to admit it, it's a competition amongst them. That being said, (fingers crossed) hopefully, this is a once in a lifetime deal and it will be something that we'll be able to look back on fondly for many, many years to come.

I appreciate the well wishes, and I hope everything goes well too. Plane tickets from DFW to LGA/JFK are running just under $300 right now. Anyone know of a good website for airfare? I've already got tickets to the show (Soul II Soul) and our hotel room booked. Just need a place for dinner after the show (11:00 pm seating) and my airline tickets.

Someone is feeding you lies. I understand, New York looks really big and scary from Texas! Better that weak minded people such as yourself stay away.

Thanks sLaNd B a L L a. I checked them out earlier and they didn't have times that could work coming down from Dallas. I had a couple of tickets slip out from under me looking to get some better deals, so I booked our tickets through AA and got non-stops both ways that will work timewise.

Wish me luck.... still looking for restaurant tips if y'all have some suggestions!!

I'm from Houston and was visit NYC fairly often.

This past January, I spent the better part of an afternoon and evening walking around Manhattan and Brooklyn alone. I even visited the Belmont area of the Bronx. There wasn't a single moment that I didn't feel safe.

Now if my car was to break down on Fondren near Sharpstown after dark, you can bet your ass I'd be calling AAA...

I agree, I always feel safe when I'm in NYC. I even ride the subway late at night alone when there is maybe one other person in the same subway car. I'm more on edge when I'm in Houston anyday. More ppl pack heat in Texas also.

actually many people don't get killed in austin....i'm sure more people get killed during one week in nyc that in an entire year in austin

luckily i haven't had anything happen to me, but i've seen way too many ambulances, police cars, and fire trucks whizzing by me for my own good

as i said before, if it wasnt for career opportunities, i would be in houston or austin as we speak

its a city of 8 million people and you are talking about police, firetrucks, and ambulances?

it just seems weird that someone who lives in New York would warn someone of "walking around Manhattan"...

i feel safer walking around washington heights than i do east austin...(which is where I was jumped by four teenagers when I lived there, and so did my roommate)

relax man, you act like you're the tourism minister of nyc or something, you're taking this way too personally....people are gonna come here regardless of what you or i say

so you had one bad experience in austin, you're not seriously comparing crime there with crime here in nyc, are you? if you are, you know there's no comparison

also, i never warned anybody of "walking around Manhattan," i just gave some friendly advice

another thing, i had never seen a rat in my life until i came here, now when i ride the subway, i expect to see them and i unfortunately do

i just think nyc is old, dirty, and way too expensive and you know texas has way better women overall

most apts here don't even have central air & heating....you can't really drive a car....so you have to ride that filthy subway

austin, houston, and nyc have their good and bad areas, i just think there are more bad areas here in nyc

yeah, i think nyc has shed its dangerous city image. all the statistics seem to point nyc as one of the safer big cities.
i'm not as scared of getting mugged as i am scared of the extra weight i'm going to put on.
