Heading to Atlanta in September to see Outkast. We are driving Friday and be there that night and all day Saturday with Sunday being the concert. Anybody have any recommendations on where to stay and must see or food places? Really have no idea of what sides are cool to stay on. But food places it doesn't matter. Just something that Atlanta has the best of. I'm so excited for this trip. They had only announced a Saturday show but when it sold out in 40 minutes they added a Friday show. That sold out in 40minutes. Then yesterday they announced a third show and finally I was lucky enough to snag two tickets. Probably one of the best days ever.

Damn you.. I missed out. Atlanta can be cool. Forget Coke World & the Georgia Aquarium and go straight to Cleremont Lounge.

The strip club? I think while trying to look up old threads about Atlanta on here that is all people kept recommending. Lol. Not into strip clubs but drinking spots, I'm down.

Depends on how much you want to spend on your accommodations. The area around the airport has decent hotels but there isn't crap to do or anywhere decent to eat. Buckhead and Midtown areas have nice hotels, restaurants, and bars...but can be pricey.

This is not your average strip club. You go there for a laugh. If still not your cup of tea.. Midtown is usually the happening place at night. A lot of cool spots in Old 4th Ward and Buckhead (some of those places in Buckhead remind me a SEC frathouse though). If you want to do something outdoorsy you can "Shoot the Hooch".

ATL is a great place. Kind of like Houston, but better. I've lived there off and on for the past couple of years. Buckhead area is pricey for hotels and more of a shopping area.. Decatur is more of yuppies with small eateries. East Atlanta Village and Little Five Points are the hipster hangouts. Downtown is where more of the urban professionals hang out. I've run into Akon and Steve Aoki at the rooftop at the W in downtown ATL. The area does get sketchy after dark though since a lot of homeless people along with the overflow hospital crowd. Midtown ATL is like midtown Houston kind of. Buckhead has a lot of the college frat types bars. Tony Gonzalez the tight end is often at those Buckhead bars. Very nice guy. Just make sure to avoid East Point Atlanta since that is one of the roughest parts of the country in general. The South part of ATL is the cheaper, but more dangerous areas especially East Point to airport area. North of the city is the suburbs where they are going to build their new baseball stadium in a few years.

Really depends on what your scene is and what type of people you like to hang out with.

If you are looking for cheaper housing, think about staying North of the city in either Marietta, or Sandy Springs area.

As for must see things in ATL, I would second Clermont Lounge. It's more of a bar with over 50 year old women stripping you and you basically go there for the laughs. My friend saw Jonn Hamm there a few weeks ago and then another friend saw Ashton Kutcher before that. They have a saying that only two types of people go there: deadbeats and rockstars. Also consider Apache Cafe. It's a bar/lounge type place in Midtown.

As for food, there is literally everything. They have some really amazing Ethiopian food near Emory. Also some very good ethnic food along Buford Highway. Don't go to ATL and eat at a chain restaurant please. Also check out Antico's Pizza, Fellini's Pizza, Mellow Mushroom and R. Thomas Grill for some cool hangouts. Dua Vietnamese in downtown is amazing, but they keep limited hours. Porter Beer Bar in Little Five Points has a 20 page drink menu and quite possibly any drink you can think of. Great place.

Regarding strip club culture is very unique in ATL. It is a place where a lot of people go to the strip clubs to listen to the DJ's spin music. A lot of the new underground and Southern rap is introduced in these clubs. So the strip club DJs are often the taste makers in the rap scene.

Also since you are a big fan out Outkast check out MJQ club. Andre 3000 used to hang out in the undeground club in the late 90's. It's right by Clermont.

Forgot to mention one thing that is the traffic. It is god awful during the week. Rush hour literally begins at 2pm in Buckhead and around 3PM-8PM elsewhere in the city. The traffic is quite literally the worst on the whole East Coast, since they don't have adequate infrastructure for their population. But if you are there only for the weekend I think you should be ok.

Don't be afraid of Marta to beat the traffic, especially if you are staying in the suburbs

This is a perfect. When I head to any city I want to go to where the locals go. But yeah definitely take all these recommendations and scope out some stuff. Thanks for the info of the area. I'm not nervous I just want to know what I'm getting into with the nightlife. As long as it's not as sketchy at N.O. I'm good. Houston style sketchy I can deal with.

GOD I hope not. Hopefully it's a different act. I'm praying for Goodie Mob, Killer Mike, and Sleepy Brown.

I saw Big Boi perform at Emory back in 2011 at a free show in front of about 1000 people. Half the kids there didn't even know who he was. I was smh.

Yeah Outkast is my favorite group, period. I bought tickets for ACL and FFF fest in case they came and when they announced them for ACL I was so pumped. But then I read about their Coachella audience being really lame and not knowing any of their other songs besides the hits. That made me nervous about the show but when they announced these shows I almost lost it. Being in Atlanta and also playing an extended set. I can drive 14 hours for that. And there is nothing better than coming back to your home and playing three sold out shows. I'm so pumped. I just wish they bring Goodie Mob and Killer Mike. I don't want to see a Kid Cudi or Childish Gambino type before them. That is a kind of weak support cast. I bet Future comes out some part of the show. Hopefully I can just repress that from my memory if it happens.

Vortex has 1 of the best burgers I've ever eaten. For breakfast I'd try out Bluebird Cafe...freaking phenomenal pancakes with carmelized bananas.

Do something you can't do in Houston. Go white water rafting. They has some good spots an hour or so outside of Atlanta.
