Going to Cincy on a vacation? Wow. I worked there for about 15 months and found the place to be quite uninteresting. I stayed at the Westin Fountain Square the entire time. There were some bars we'd hit up in mount adams, but other than that, wow, good luck with the vacation in the natty.
In the Nati, make sure you eat Graeter's Ice Cream, the Black Raspberry Chip is the best ice cream/gelato you will ever have. Eat brunch at First Watch, a very good and cheap breakfast place. Stay away from anything called chili in cincinnati. And, when I say eat Graeter's, I mean make it the first thing you do in the city, you'll proceed to eat it at least twice a day for the whole weekend!
Yeah, Graeter's is good ice cream. I guess there is one redeeming quality about Porkopolis (yes, that is the nickname for Cincy). Skyline chili is just straight-up awful.
Blasphemy!! Cincinnati Chili Rocks! (though I will admit if you are born and raised on Texas chili, it's going to be a shock to the system... but other than that...) Cincinnati Chili Rocks!! I suggest Dixie rather than Skyline or Gold Star. Dixie Chili can be found on the south side of the river... in my homeland.
Both my husband and I have cousins in Cincinnati, which is one reason we wanted to visit. Also, we will be seeing the Astros game. We are looking at getting reservations at a place called First Farm Inn. www.firstfarminn.com Do you know anything about it? Thanks.
I have never heard of it. It's really cute though. It's a little bit of a drive from downtown, but no more than 25 minutes or so. You are really close to the casino in Lawrenceburg. Something to keep in mind, there is a lot of road construction right there around Petersburg... one lane going west bound on 275, east bound 275 has two lanes. It moves fairly smoothly because there is typically low traffic... but it might be a pain at rush hour (I am only driving through there late at night going to the casino or dropping my sister off in Petersburg.)
