    Ali,

Assuming you're not counting "y" as a vowel, there are several words with the vowels in alphabetical order. Just find a bunch that end in "ious".... and there are a few. One is "facetious".

Can you please explain this one to me. Normally I'm pretty smart, but I don't get how anyone would come up with 0 or 1/0. Can you work it out step by step for me?
My thinking is that if you go 30 mph on the way there and 90 mph on the way back, you would average 60 mph. Please forgive me for being an idiot, I seem to always miss the easy ones. [IMG]

From the first list, I think everything's been answered already. I just want to second the assertion that #7 is an invalid question because the axiom -- that the peacock laid an egg -- is false.

Of the next set, I don't understand the answer to #4.

    8) The Panama Canal runs north-south so the answer is 'no'.

    10) ???

#10 like the one earlier requires simple thought, not deep analysis guys... I'll let ya suffer some more... hehe. [IMG]

Think about it this way... when was the last time you saw a duck in a glass bottle? How'd the duck get in? Why not get it out the same way?

    LOL! This one's stupid. [IMG]

The "longest word" one is an ancient riddle. It doesn't test your vocabulary as much as it tests your ability to read "between the lines".

    Hydra has it right:

It is impossible. You would need to get back instantaneously.

So, if you solve for the velocity on the return trip, you get 1/0 - infinity: you'd have to travel infinitely fast to average 60 mph. If you solve for the time of the return trip, you get zero - the return trip took zero hours.

I'm not going to try to type the algebra equations, but:

Say Grandma's house is 60 miles away. It took you two hours to get there at 30 mph.

Now you're ready to drive home. You wanna average 60 mph and you start figuring. The whole trip totals 120 miles, so if I wanna average 60 mph, I can only spend 2 hours driving. Wait, I already spent 2 hours driving, this is impossible.

You'd have to travel infinitely fast to double your average speed.

    Ali Cat,

    1. What happened in the middle of the 20th Century that will not happen again for 4,000 years?

A World War, what are you Nostradomas or something? That's something like 150 generations from now, whew. By then it'll probably be a war with another world. Doh!

    4. What three things go up and down, but never move?

    Temperature, humidity, the stock market

The tide and the sun both move.

    9. What runs but cannot walk?

Also an engine, or anything with moving parts ala a watch, or even a computer.

DREAMer... the 4000 years is probably an astrological event, like a comet dropping by or something.

Or, it's the next time that DOD will pick up a check.
