I think he may have a normal hook, what I consider a normal hook shot is where you stick your arm straight up and flick the ball in with your wrist. If he can be consistent with that sort of shot, it would be great. I was wonderin about the legendary "sky-hook", to my understanding, a sky hook is where you bring the arm up from the side of your bodyin a sweepin motion towards the basket. Maybe I'm off on this, I'm not totally sure how folks see a difference betwen them..
Kind of like Hakeem's "jump hook" and Kareem's "sky hook". I like the jump hook personally. But Im biased. Oops ...did I just really say that?
Looks like we (mostly Codell} covered most of the bases. Whether we run isolation plays, the UCLA shuffle, Phils Triangle, Rudys motion, post=up - kick out, or run and shoot, the addition of Yao to this mix makes the Rocket offense seem unstoppable.
I have alot of spare time. My wife is knocked up so Im not having to do any extra work lately if you know what I mean.
Phil's triangle is nothing like a motion offense, at least a full motion offense where 5 guys are constantly running. Instead, it basically promotes good spacing, with occasional movement ie. Rick Fox cutting to the basket on a backdoor pass from Shaq.
Phil Jackson is smarter than a lot of people give him credit for. On the other hand, Tex Winter may be smarter than them all! lol
Phil will probably be the first to admit that he's not an X's and O's genius. So people will use that against him. But what the haters don't realize, is how little importance there is with X's and O's in basketball. 90% of the game is instinctive and improvisational. Phil knows his limits, and that is why he has most of his staff from the Bulls days. Phil is smart in that he knows what he needs to win. Phil is the best mental coach I've ever seen in the NBA, as far as commanding respect from the biggest egos in the game, as well as getting players to accept their roles. 90% of coaching is relied on having the respect of your players. I gurantee you that every Lakers listens and respects what Phil says. I don't think there is one coach who comes close to having 100% respect and authority over his players in the league.
The last full motion offense I remember was the UCLA shuffle,John Wooden put it in because everybody on his team was the same size, like 6ft 5" or something. I guess what I am saying is that was a long time ago. ..... I was only kidding about the Rockets running that, and also the last I heard the Gunslingers are not running the run and shoot anymore either.
I wasn't even expecting any changes this year. "Same old ISOs...." I thought. Then, when Rudy announced that he was going to implement a new offense I was shocked. The mere fact that Rudy knows that change is needed is good enough. "Defense" is also a main point of training camp. Add the fact that because there has been such a big deal made of these changes, this will put pressure on Rudy to keep his end of the deal running all season. I mean, think about it. Imagine, 20 games into the season, we start seeing more ISOs...if one of those ISOs causes a turn-over, or loss... can you imagine the hell that Rudy will receive?! There's a lot of pressure on Rudy to keep his word. Teamwork and a 5-man offense require discipline. It's not easy. It takes time. But the pay-off later is enormous! ISOs are easy to implement, give quick results, and requires NO teamwork. But they hurt you in the long run.
