Well... It doesn't look like junk, that's for sure. I don't think a pic will help you think it's any less gross though- a sliced piece of "Three Milks cake" is hardly decorous in appearance and presentation.. You have to really just try and taste it. Tastes better than it looks.
Yes, Tres Leches is the best cake, primarily because it is ultimately moist with sweet sweet condensed milk. (notice the drippy goodness collecting on the plate) But you could make a case for: 1. Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese Icing 2. Mexican Chocolate/Cinamon Cake 3. Italian Wedding Cake 4. and the forgotten masterpiece...Pineapple Upsidedown Cake
Tampico on Airline has the best tres leches cake I have tried. It's not overly sweet like most tres leches cakes can be.
I love tres leches, but best ever...Hell no... I prefer the cakes we get my kids on their b-days...We get them at Cakes by Cheree in Pasadena and they rock...My favorite is a chocolate ganosh (msp?) and its chocolate with chocolate icing with chocolate covered strawberries...mmmm...
Sorry guys, but I have to say I can't stand that crap. To its credit, I don't generally like dessert though. And what's the name of that Mexican tapioca-pudding-like stuff? I had it at some restaurant in Monterrey once, and it put me out of (drinking) commission for the whole night. SICK! My best advice is to stick to tacos. Can't ever get enough tacos, so skip the sweet crap and save room for one more...
I make a mean Tres leches cake. It's definitely the best cake I make, even slightly ahead of Sock-it-to-me cake. Carrot cake might be better, but that's even debatable.
My mom makes it often. I kinda grew out of it. Can't really eat cake anymore unless it's chocolate can. Muse Chocolate, mmmm.
Why so many MEXICAN-related threads lately? COKE, Tres Leches... etc. If you haven't had Tres Leches cake recently, probably you haven't gone to a Mexican's family birthday party... We're going to the club this Saturday, yo. I haven't had much luck recently picking out the hotties and need your skill... Pick you up at 10.
I'm going to have to try it some time. As far as Mexican cakes go I've had the pan de queso which I thought was pretty good.
