nice post, this topic has been dwelling on my mind for a while too.

Yao and Lebron were definitely treated different and heres why...

Yao was not hyped, Yao was bashed since he got drafted that beginning period so many people said he was going to be a bust...

Lebron was not bashed, he was hyped.. everyone said he was the next great thing...he is clearly number one in the draft, when arguable darko or melo may even be better...but jay over Yao, no way...

Yao is a star and was hyped after he PROVED everyone wrong with his performance...

Lebron got cred before he even played, and he really is bad so far...did yao ever jack up 18 shots to make 4 baskets?

Stupid sportscenter would glorify James 6 pts, but overlook Yao's 11...instead of saying Yao is a great fundamentally sound player, they would say he is tired...instead of saying lebron jacks up too many and can't shoot, they would focus on one dunk he made...

    yeah, its not fair...

what i think is most stupid is Yao was gauged against Shaq, as if he was not successful against Shaq than he is a failure...

whereas Lebron is not better than anyone right now, and wont be better than kobe or tmac yet he will still be hyped that way...

    its ridiculous...

Yea i find it odd that Sportscenter just show off Lebron's couple of dunks even though he's horrible in the game. And they didn't say anything about this horrific fg%. They simply show him doing his dunks and 1 missed shot and then quickly move to other highlights. Man, if it's Yao Ming, they probably rub it all over him. They're so bias and overhype and continue to hype about James. It's odd to me.

James is totally lost now; and so is the sportcentre. How could the kid be hyped so much in a game with 5-14 FG, 5-8 FT, 7 TO and 5 PF.

    :)

Well I think there's a conspiracy or something, between ESPN and NBA, between the media and the sports leagues. First they choose their prospective stars, then they hype him up. But for Yao's case, their prospective star showed up by himself.

Tough is fine. Expectations are external. In the end he still has to do the work.

Expecting things the "easy" way might come from the fans. If the player thinks that, he's in trouble. I get good vibes from LeBron. He's seems to have a strong work ethic.

LeBron already has the tools and vision to build from He'll be fine.

Heh, I knew I'd get ridiculed for that.
I neglected to finish what I really meant. I know that Lebron is just doing what he loves, playing ball. I really wish him well, to say that I hoped he's a flop is wrong, and I didn't mean it.
    Go Lebron! :D

I actually AM dissappointed in the media and all the other sources that hype a ball player up so much, one that is right out of HIGH SCHOOL, and hasn't played against real competition. He is so hyped, he's gotten rediculous amounts of money from various sources, and I honestly think of that ascpect of the situation as REDICULOUS! I tend to want all that hype and fortune to be wasted, just so the providers feel stupid.
But I don't want Lebron to suffer his game. ;)
