I hate to judge the parents, since everybody's situation is different, but reality is that it is exercising poor judgment. In reality, these large festivals rarely end in tragedy, so odds are that if you take the kids, it will be okay. I agree though, these are not the kind of festivals I would want to expose my young children too until they are much older.
WHY ARE THERE KIDS AT A MUSIC FESTIVAL??? Tell me you've never been to a music festival without telling me you've never been to a music festival...
Context. I'm not talking about the 18 and up kids. I'm talking the young children with their parents. This is also a Travis Scott festival where there is plenty of history to go on. It's inexcusable
I had heard the narrative (not from the media) that Travis Scott DID stop the concert to draw focus to injured people in crowd. He just decided to keep the concert going, from what I heard, he was keeping his vocal chords active - sort of an intermission. Now, I do see the media picking up on that a bit. So he did at least make some attempt to "help". I believe a video clip has been released of this. My question still is, at this point, if the crowd surges were caused by a panic from the rumored needle injection character.
I wish I could take back what I said earlier in this thread when all this first happened, but I’m not going to. I will say my heart goes out to all the families and the people who died or either injured at this concert. Just a very sad situation altogether
My little brother was there. Said it was out of control 2 years ago so his group stayed towards the back but still ended up getting sucked in He basically said it was just out of control people pushing their way to the front. He said it basically just turned into survival of the fittest to get the **** out. Groups were pushing other groups to the ground and said it just turns into one big wave that your just trying to stay on your feet and get out
It really depends on the festival. I've seen kids at reggae and jazz festivals. Seeing some kids around the mid teenage years at hip hop festivals is relatively normal, but have never seen kids in the single digits at the hip hop fests/edm fests.
+1. You should be able to take your kids to music events. However, you’re responsible for them. Meaning if they get hurt or in trouble you are held accountable and liable. That said, I wouldn’t take an underage kid to an ‘adult’ concert like this.
I am much more into rock and don’t listen to Travis but come on dog you can control the crowd more than security in the middle of the show. Like I said before tons of heavy mosh type bands like slipknot have stopped and refused to play more music until the crowd backs up when noticing trouble brewing in the front. You can find videos of ASAP, linkin park, and all being turning off the music to adjust the crowd He could’ve used the two moments he stopped for the person and ambulance to give a safety chat or tell the crowd to many people are getting hurt, but he tells them to make the ground shake. As a professional veteran performer, he could’ve done better
Crowd surge wave is terrifying. I never knew how fast and how forceful these waves can be. Here's an example of an Oasis concert. Look at how far the people behind the barrier are pushed back on each wave and how long it takes to pull someone up once they've fallen. I am actually surprised people aren't severely injured more often at giant crowds.
I've watched that several times now and it looks faker every time. Insane. So sad and senseless. Hope those hospitalized make a full recovery.
Prayers to the kids and families affected, I can’t imagine the suffering and wouldn’t wish that on anyone
I called it a pit (don’t know what it’s actually called) but basically general admission, standing room at concerts. If COVID didn’t end this practice then maybe Astroworld Fest will have the powers that be take a look at this again for safety.
