I guess they had to do something; sad to have to give up on a first round pick after 4 seasons. The defensive tackle play was poor last season and you're not moving Okoye so hopefully this shakes the group up.
The first few years of this team's existence produced two really good players. The rest, like 4 years worth of drafting and free agent signings, produced average talent or worse. Remarkable. When Kubiak got this team it was like we were an expansion team all over.
We probably saved a decent chunk of change with it being the last year of his rookie contract. Money that can be used toward Dunta/OD/DeMeco. Hopefully he will be our last wasted 1st round pick for a long, long time.
When did it become so hard to find a good DT? We seem to be snake-bit at this position. Does Ray Childress have any interest in coming out of retirement?
To be fair, this regime has only really invested in one and has attempted to patch together the other guys at that position. I still think this team is one more year away from being really good. They need secondary help and probably two more defensive linemen.
