Man, I hope he makes a full recovery. Just because I don't think he's the best drummer since Buddy Rich doesn't mean I wish any ill will towards him.

From what I understand, he still teaches drum lessons to little kids. Even though he's a millionaire, he still teaches beginners. I'm sure those kids really look up to him and anyone who can get kids interested in music is A-OK in my book.

    Get well soon, Travis.

BTW, Ringo is one of the most musical drummers in the history of...well, the world. It's not always about playing mind blowing fills every 4 bars.

    Jesus, that is horrible...

Even to anyone that suffered second and third degree burns to their body.

Travis Barker is a freak...look at his body!

It's sad how many posts in this thread are hating on or defending this dude's drumming skills. According to reports, half his body is burned and he is lucky to be alive...

I wonder what it feels like to be with a group of people in an accident then come out as one or two of the survivors. Seems like it would be a horrible burden to have on your shoulders. :(

I will never understand how people can argue for 2 pages about something that is opinion based.

That's what drummers, drummer-wannabees, drummer-non-wannabees, and non-musicians do. It's the power of the beat and they all think they know it so well that they can tell you who does it better than anyone else.

I'll tell you...this went on in a drummer's forum where people were bashing the drummer of "Dream Theater"...Mike Portnoy. A lot of those people were bashing him...saying he was a poser who showed off to the fans...and all this crap. It got to the point where Mike Portnoy himself showed up to defend himself from all these posters who were making all these harsh statements as to his ability. It degenerated to the point of name calling. If you read the thread, you would think Mike Portnoy was a self-assed egomaniac and self-proclaimed "God of Drums". He was pissed off and rightly so...about all these hack posters pissing on him. That was the worst I ever saw in a stupid debate over "which drummer is better than this drummer". I have to admit...it was kind of funny, though.

Glad to hear these guys will recover...regardless of their DJ and drumming abilities and where they rank in their respective professions.

Well we are all sports fans who love to argue about who is better than who.

also there is a difference between spouting opinions founded on a biased "point of view".. on any subject.. and sharing an educated opinion founded on objectivity..

I've been playing percussion and drums in concert bands, orchestras, marching bands, etc., for the last 20+ years (eeek, that's a while). I only do a little drum set, though, and that's one of the things I need to work on.

Best wishes to them- which is what this thread should be about, not arguing about which drummer is the best or who's better than who.

That being said, no one touches Keith Moon. Love Neil Peart, John Bonham, Charlie Watts, Ringo Starr, Alex Van Halen, Mitch Mitchell, Don Henley, Phil Collins, Yes' drummer, etc. As well as 100+ other great drummers in rock and roll. But....

    Keith Moon

Crash Eyewitness: I Heard Them Say, "Oh, My God"

E! News has learned new details about the plane crash that killed four and left Travis Barker and Adam "DJ AM" Goldstein critically injured.

In a network-TV exclusive to air Tuesday at 7 p.m., E! News' Jason Kennedy interviews William Owens, a truck driver who witnessed the crash Friday night in Columbia, S.C.

Speaking to Kennedy from his Columbia home, Owens says that he was driving in his van to a friend's house down Highway 302, near the Columbia airport, shortly before midnight when he saw "a ball of fire going across the road."

"It ignites—it crashed, in fact—went across the highway and crashed, dumping two guys out onto the highway, and they were on fire, I'm seeing that as I approach, and the plane is burning slightly," Owens tells E! News.

The "two guys" were Barker and Goldstein.

Owens says he approached the scene to offer help. "I crossed the jet fuel to get closer to the guys who were still beating the flames off of them. The DJ is helping the drummer get out of his pants; he strips off and he's standing there naked. The two go to the grass. They're circling; they're, like, stunned. I certainly am as well; I don't know what to do. They don't know what to do."

Owens says he asked who else was on the plane, and Goldstein told him there were four others.

"We both took a step to go towards the plane like maybe we could do something. We couldn't, because now close to a minute has expired and the plane is burning badly. It was a totally helpless, hopeless situation. I knew they were dead and I was sure of it, because by now the plane is boiling, if the wreck didn't get them I know the flames did and I just hope that they were either dead or unconscious.

"I heard no screams, I was grateful for that," Owens says.

Owens recalls both Barker and AM were walking around and appeared to be OK. "I didn't see the burns, I just know that they were on fire and I figured they put themselves out and they were fine. Like I said, they weren't cry babies."

He describes the two as shocked, not crying or speaking: "All I heard...them say was 'Oh, my god.' I said nothing more to them; they said nothing more to me."

Owens left after about 10 minutes when other passers-by stopped to help and he knew an ambulance was on its way.

"The two men were in good hands, someone had provided clothing for the drummer," he says. "I think it's miraculous that their plane just crashed and neither one of them [was] injured whatsoever."
