like i think i have said i have been to san miguel a few times. and mexico city a long time ago. but i have never heard of zacatecas. so what do you like about that city?

as far as time spent in mexico i want to kind of figure out a plan on what to do and spend some time there. and then my friend and i want to take a bus and spend some time in brazil and maybe a few other places. just not sure how hard it would be to get a bus from mexico city (where i think it would be easiest) to south america.

ill have to do some research on zacatecas and see what thats all about, and real de catorce looks interesting i just did some quick wikipedia looking at that. my roommate actually has that movie The Mexican. i guess i need to check it out.

i spent about a week in zacatecas after just intending to pass thru. its a really cool, old colonial city. college town too w/ a pretty cool bar scene. it was a big mining town so at one time there was alot of money there. they had an aquaduct built like 400 years ago that still snakes thru the heart of town. it is one of the more pedestrian friendly big cities i have been to. you can walk everywhere pretty easily. nice parks. the coolest church i have ever seen (at least from the exterior). cool little outdoor shopping area. my favorite mexican restaurant - la unica cabana - best horchada ive ever had - i ate there twice a day - it was me and my 2 friends - all waiters at the time so we tipped pretty good - the waiters would see us walking by and chase us down - pretty funny.

really cool musuems there - i think it is called the pedro coronel museum - probably the most diverse single museum i have ever been to - from ancient artifacts from all over the world to modern art pieces. cool huicol(?) indian museum. you can ride a cable car to the top of a mountain with a convent that became a fort under pancho villa - very scenic view of the city from up there and a museum about the history of la revolucion w/ lots of cool artifacts (if you are into that stuff). zacatecas was one of the hotbeds of the revolucion and the battles fought there were pretty intense.

and the home of the michelada!

EDIT: you will not be able to take a bus direct to south america. even if you left from chiapas or oaxaca the furthest you could probably go would be guatemala - i imagine you would be switching buses quite a bit. it would be much quicker and actually, probably cheaper, to just fly from mexico to brazil.

I like living in Mexico, is a beatiful city, with a lot of things to do, and yeah, its has crime, but not that high like all you say, yeah the pollution is bad, but other cities are worse.

You have to be careful, but you can go here.

San Miguel de Allende is a nice city, you can go to Guanajuato or queretaro these are cities very close with a lot of things and buildings that represents the history of Mexico (especially the independence days).

Well my clutchfans brothers and sisters I will go to Guadalajara, Jalisco (Ocotlan) on wed. I will be driving there with my dad since he is scared of taking a 2 hr flight. Just going back to the motherland since summer of 94 for the mexican independence week long celebration. I will try to take pictures as long as have my camera.

There is no way to take a bus from Panama to Colombia. You could take a bus from Mexico to Costa Rica, though.
