The only downside to my trip was luggage got in about 4 hours after I did. I didn't really care tho'. I want to continue basking, hee hee, a picture of the bedroom from their website. Good times.
Being with the Government I do a lot of travelling and usually to not very fun places like Norfolk, VA. DC gets really old too. I absolutely despise travelling and can't stand to be away from my family. Got stuck being gone for nearly a month in February, and if that ever happens again, I'm sure I'll be in the mood to search for a new job. It takes the right kind of person to be able to travel and be away from your family alot. Some can deal with, I definitely cannot.
PSJ--damn, man, you are making me really miss my old home. I lived in Fort Apache, AZ (a real crappy place to live, but nice surroundings) and spent a ton of time in Phoenix. I love that city but I haven't been in so long. Were you staying in PHX? That is a very underrated city, IMO. Great shopping, great weather other than summer (I don't even care about that...heat doesn't bother me), great food, tons of stuff to do... but, back to the topic...I don't travel for business since I am still in school, but I hope I have the opportunity for a job that requires a lot of travel before I get married and settled down (if that ever happens). I think it would be a lot of fun unless you had a family back home that you missed a lot. In your late 20's, I think it would be awesome to have a job for a few years that required a lot of traveling.
I absolutely hate it!!!!! No question about it at all. Looking back, it's one of the things that I truly regret. As a lot of you know, I was In Vietnam and then I worked for the State Department in Israel. While I did that, my family was here. My wife almost singlehandedly raised my boys when they were young. Retrospectively, any other woman would have dumped my ass a long time ago and left. I wasn't making a lot of money working for Uncle Sam and I could have gotten into my later profession (working as a Professor) at that time, but I didn't. I was ambitious and I was selfish. I missed a lot of valuable time with my sons, and for those of you that are dads, you know how much that hurts. Your children don't stop growing for your ambitions. By the time I was stateside on a permanent basis, my oldest son was about to start college and I missed out. My kids were deprived of their father and I was deprived of the joy of seeing my boys grow. I am trying to make up for that now with my grandchildren. I can never give back to my sons what I owed them, but in terms of the joy of seeing children, I'm getting a lot of that now with my grandkids. To sum it up, travel is a b!tch.
It looks very similar to where my wife and I stayed up there, The Boulders. We were walking on a path from our room and saw a Wildcat that scared the piss out of me.
The only way I will go on a business trip is if: 1: I can be back before bedtime 2: My family can travel with me.
I hate it, but when I am over here, I love it during the work, just hate the nights where I don't get to see my wife and kids. However, I am in London and we are about to watch England play Ajerbajahn in soccer and that is a blast. Oh, and for those of you saying the Gizmondo will flop, just wait till you see E3 and what we have in store for 2006....OMFG !!! DD
There's three great things about business travelling to England: 1) The crappy food keeps you from eating too much and getting fat 2) The crappy weather keeps you from staying out all night, being hungover, and getting fired 3) The women don't exactly spark a desire to cheat on your wife Just be thankful the company isn't headquartered in Rio or Paris...
In my daytime career, I would make 50% more than I do now if I would be willing to fly to a US City every Monday morning and fly home to Houston every Friday evening....52 weeks a year. I have chosen sanity over dollars. I would be miserable if my lifestyle was like that.
I, along with my wife, have chosen to give it a year and see where we are.....if we are not happy at that point, we move on to something else. Family is number one with me, no exceptions. DD
