I might be going here next month. The only problem is that it take like 5 hours to get there from Ho Chi Minh City.
I think my uncle went there a few years ago. Is that the place where you have to take a very dangerous and bumpy train, but is supposed to be like paradise when you arrive? He said it was great but that he'd never do it again...maybe it's another place.
El Nido, Palawan There is no better beach resort anywhere. Granted you have to fly to Manila, and the fly on a puddle jumper, and then take a jeepney across an island, and then get on a little boat to get to the smaller island....but what the hey.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Grand Cayman. I'm not the beach type of person but I'd go back there in a minute. It's amazing and clean. I loved how we could go to a place like that and it not be a complete butthole right outside of the tourist areas. <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/treymcglaun/WesternCaribbeanCruise2005/photo#4947254985384329234"><img src="http://lh4.google.com/treymcglaun/RKguMpEdABI/AAAAAAAABWk/bxYBlxuP1c0/s400/western%20caribbean%20cruise%202005-04%20061.jpg" /></a> <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/treymcglaun/WesternCaribbeanCruise2005/photo#4947255135696453650"><img src="http://lh4.google.com/treymcglaun/RKguVZBqABI/AAAAAAAABXE/__1Fu6RxNLI/s400/western%20caribbean%20cruise%202005-04%20065.jpg" /></a>
second Viña, and if you go at the right time of the year, you can ski at Colorado (resort in the andes) one day, swim the next! and the stewardesses on lan chile...
I'm headed to South America in mid April. Most likely Vina Del Mar and Santiago in Chile and Buenos Aires in Argentina. Any recommendations on what to do there? Or are there some different cities I should be looking at?
i'll have to agree with Master Baiter, Grand Caymans are amazing. You have to go swim with the manna rays if you go there. The only Hawaiian island truly worth going to IMO is Kauai. It's less crowded than Oahu and the main island and has an amazzzzing abundance of waterfalls. Absolutely gorgeous. Also, if you like Italy, Sorrento or Capri with the Blue Grotto is spectacular, although when we were there it was crowded as hell. I'm guessing if you went anywhere later in the summertime it would be less crowded...
Europe gets my vote as well, but I'm rather biased. I will also say that Peru was easily one of the greatest places I've ever visited and is on my short list of places that I will return to. Lima ain't much for beaches....its right on the Pacific coast, but I'd rather swim in Galveston's murky waters. Peru has sparked a huge interest in South America for me, but its the only place I've been to down there, so I can't speak on anything else. The Yucatan is also amazing for beaches, scenery, culture, food, etc. Greece and the Greek Isles are easily some of the most beautiful places I've been too. For my money, the two most beautiful, most magical, and most captivating locations I've ever visited on planet earth are Bavaria (the Black Forest, specifically), and Peru (the Sacred Valley/Machu Picchu, specifically). I've traveled a lot, but these two areas capture my heart and imagination like no other. Best of luck, and of course let us know what you decide!
I went there last summer and although it is fun it was sooooo hot. I also went to Ireland last summer, that's what I would pick if I were you, prolly the best vacation i ever had
Land in Puerto Vallarta, take a bus ride to Punta Mita and then Sayulita. Sorry Im just getting back to you and cur.ve And also, Rio de Janeiro also is a favorite, but a little more expensive to go now.
Go east! Seriously, there is only so much time you can spend on the beach getting a suntan. So if you want a 'mixed bag' I would recommend Greece/Turkey/Egypt/Morocco/Vietnam/Indonesia/China/Philippines or some other place. You get nice beaches, friendly people, great scenery, and plenty of culture. Latin American has some great places as well that would fit the bill, like Peru. Just keep in mind how much time you want to spend on a plane in order to get to some of those place (they range from 8-16 hours). If you want somewhere closer/less hectic travel, then just head south. And if you want a place where the buck goes far, Kandahar is beautiful this time of the year
