Relax, my response was not just for your post. I have no problem with people saying Austin is overrated or that it's changed or that people aren't as friendly as Houston. There's some truth to all of that. But as you mention, there's more fun in Austin than bars. I have a family and it's a fantastic place to raise one... and I haven't even taken them to any bars yet.
Cohen, you didn't realize that starting a thread on clutchfans invited haters? where have you been? like if you started a thread about your old favorite players like Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith, you get nothing but negative junk by people who never watched them. Like this thread, some people probably haven't step foot in Atown. I thought of starting a thread called "THEMSELVES' so the haters can go to.
tinman, Certainly you know that your tone invites a specific response in your threads? As for this thread, yes I knew those who disliked Austin would show up as well as though with a sensitivity wrt anything they think disparages Houston, even if very very indirectly. I wouldn't mind if some of 'those' Californians who are still relocating in droves read about the dislikes of Austin.
Minneapolis has a burgeoning museum scene and some impressive new buildings by star architects, from what I've heard. And if the list is about tourist destinations, then I agree that Houston doesn't belong. Great restaurants, great nightlife, great museums, great theatre... and no way to get to any of them unless you have a rental car. It really is a terrible city for tourists, although honestly I don't think Austin or Dallas are any better. San Antonio is probably the best tourist city in the state, and even then it's not that great after you've finished wandering around downtown.
You're all right. Austin sucks. Do not move here... (As a 16-year Austinite -- and former Houstonian -- I miss the restaurants in H-Town. I do not, however, miss the massive travel distances/times to get anywhere. Austin has its good points and bad points. Houston does, too. Chicago is the best city in America -- May-October. Blah, blah, blah...)
Haven't been to Chicago yet, but my vote goes to NYC with Washington a close second I used to live in Miami and it's massively, massively overrated. Houston with nicer beaches, really.
Best single scene?!?!? Yeah, if your white. I lived in Austin for 5 years and vist frequently. Austin has more pretty indie/hippie/alt girls. This much is true. But the "carreer" types have nothing on the quality and variety that Houston has. Thier food scene is a joke unless you only count the overabundance of vegan/veggie joints. The BBQ is better though. Miami is a cultural wasteland. However, it is one of the few US cities I would relocate to. Perhaps I'm being biased since I'm Latin. Washigton?!?! Please tell me you meant Seattle and not Chocolate City. NYC is cool but dating there is a pain.
And...not mentioned yet...you can send your kids to public school in Austin. In Houston you wouldn't...unless you live in Ft. Bend county, Katy, or the Woodlands.
No wonder houston is one of the fatest cities in the country. All you fatasses care about is food and restaurants
Two musician friends of mine from back in the day in LA have relocated to Austin within the past year. In fact, of all of the friends I had in LA, only three still live there. Everyone else has cleared out.

Wow. That sounds pretty snobbish to me. I went to public school in a district not named Ft Bend/Katy/Woodlands ... and I survived! I even graduated from college!
Not snobbish, just realistic. I graduated from HISD in 1979 (and College in 1983), but HISD ain't what it used to be, unless you're zoned for Bellaire or Westside. I'm telling ya....if I had a kid, and lived in HISD territory outside what I mentioned above, I'd pony up the $$$ and send my kid to private school.
I'm Latin too and I hated Miami, since it combines the terrible sprawl of Houston with the vacuous residents of Dallas. The food was good, at least And yes, I meant the chocolate city - it's an excellent city for tourists, due to the various museums and monuments, as well as the great public transit. It's not a place to raise a family, obviously, but I wouldn't mind living there now.
So, DALLAS made their list, but not Houston?!? THAT's a crock of $hit. That's exactly what I do. And I hate having to pay for two schools (HISD and private school).
