I am transphobic. For the most part, I don’t care what an adult does to their own bodies as long as they’re not physically harming others in the process.

But the social media algorithms have decided I am the user who needs to see queergender people complaining about their family “deadnaming” or referring to them by their actual sex rather than their self-identified gender pisses me off. Your choices are your choices but don’t expect society to go along. Taking hormones, mutilating one’s genitals, and getting breast implants/mastectomy does not change the underlying sex. If they pass, good for them. But if they don’t, they don’t. And no amount of good vibes will change that. If I knew someone as a man, and they went ahead with a sex change operation because they are transgender, they will still be a man to me.

I wouldn’t stop associating with a person transitioning and I wouldn’t try to talk them out of it, but at the same time I acknowledge that I will never view it as normal or desirable for people to do.
