sometimes players are grown men. u can't discipline them like kids. adelman is not a disciplinarian. he's a players' coach. we have a group of guys who LOVE the game of basketball.
Yes acombination of a Rockets, Dodgers, Cowboys fan. But a diehard Rockets fan...that's a number one priority
I'm not saying it's a bad thing. Basketball is so much psychology with these guys being multi multi millionaires. I believe most of that knucklehead Marine Corp style doesn't work today. What players coaches do is simply get rid of guys that don't come around. They do it quietly and efficiently, retaining that player's trade value as high as they possibly can, even playing them if they have to in order to be able to move them for value. I really believe guys like Larry Brown and Van Gundy are great teachers of the game, but they really can't run a franchise to ultimate success very often. Even in Detroit, Brown couldn't hold it together long enough to stay there and repeat. Even the disciplinarian that Riley is........he don't go around shooting his mouth off about players. He just picks out the motivated workers and eliminates the sluff.
i totally understand your point. but look at larry brown. he's a successful coach and JVG is a successful coach. but they wear out their welcome b/c of that attitude. riley is totally is a type of player that has adjusted to today's age. back then, he was like JVG. that's where JVG got his coaching style from--pat riely during the knicks tenure. but now pat doesn't run his practice like that. he caters to his superstars like crazy. and he doesn't go crazy on them when they make mistakes.
Yet British Racing Green is my favorite color. Even though unsuitable on our Forum where I come from Green is a manly color!
