great job clutch! in the article you said: "was in there for 45 minutes, maybe an hour, and I've got to say that there is some killer conversation going on in there. It's kind of like a sports bar chat on steroids. With writers/reporters from the Chronicle, 610 and all the major TV channels, we all talked about current and past happenings with the franchise. I heard some first-hand accounts about the Clyde Drexler-Charles Barkley feud in the late 90's, Barkley's TNT work habits, Thomas Hamilton blowing up on Rudy Tomjanovich and a number of stories about current Rockets." can you elaborate any on these stories? what exactly went down with clyde and charles? and what about barkley at tnt? really piqued my curiosity
Hey Clutch, just had a chance to read the whole article. I just want to say a sincere "Thank You" (not as if the others weren't, but just to say I REALLY appreciate it) for all of your time and effort you put into this site. I know you said you have a family and a job, yet you take time out to visit training camp and write a great summary of day 1, and I'm sure you'll do the same for the other days. I was reading your article, and I was thinking, "Man, it's probably almost over," but then I looked down and noticed I was only half way through the article! Thanks for so much detail and filling us in! It's great to be a part of the BEST FANS SITE EVER!!!!
great recap of the first day Clutch, just makes me like this site more and more... except for the fact that its soooo amateur journalism
The following quote caused me actual physical pain: Why was it painful? Because all I could think about was this question: Why didn't anyone involved with this site actually CALL Clutch while he was in there at Media Day? I mean, seriously, yes, it's terrific that the 'power' of this site was able to get the organization to reverse a boneheaded decision. That's all great. However, can you imagine how sublimely sweet it would have been to have actually been able to be in that room with all those 'legitimate media' types, and be the one breaking the news to THEM? I would have died and gone to heaven right then if we had managed to pull that off. Seriously, imahine punking every one of those guys on the very first day. Clutch, I hope that you and your crew can be coordinated in this way the next time you are going to be in a situation like that. That was just too good an opportunity to miss out on. Nevertheless, awesome job, great read. Too bad you didn't manage to snag Swift, but maybe next time. Thanks
Clutch and ClutchFans are the best place for Rockets info, not even close. Ewing is still here! I thought he was gone. Very disappointing news, otherwise, an encouraging report.
Before you go making assumptions, why not read the first post in this thread? He could not get cell service at the Toyota Center which means he could not make NOR COULD HE RECEIVE phone calls. I tried to call him 3 or 4 times after this was posted on the board in the 30 minutes or so before it was announced, but I could not get through. In fact, as soon as he did get through, I saw his number on my cell and answered with "is this about Mike James?" He said, "Yeah, we have to put it up on the board." I said, "It's already been there for 30 minutes."
Would the Rockets admins get mad if Clutchfans leaked the Mike James news to the media 30 mins before?
Let's raise some money for walkie talkies this week so that we can be prepared ahead of time for this exact situation. I think I remember reading in the BBS Hangout from someone making a Hurricane preparation list & that they were considering purchasing some state of the art walkie talkies. Maybe we can talk to that guy
Thanks for clarifying that. I did see where he said that he couldn't get cell service after the announcement, but I did not know that people were already trying to call him. That is excellent news, it only makes me feel even more warm and fuzzy about you guys. Please forgive me if it seemed like criticism, it really wasn't, I was just bemoaning what appeared to be a lost opportunity. On a related subject, I seem to remember reading that the TC has one of those cell-phone blockers, or at least they tried to give that impression when I attended a graduation ceremony there last month. Anyway, you guys are top notch. It's too bad you couldn't get through, that would have been terrific.
Yes, inquiring minds want to know what you heard about Clyde-Charles and Two Sandwiches getting the axe by Rudy T. Throw us a bone, Clutch!
Nice job, Clutch! I know I spend too much time lurking here, but it's become like comfort food, ya know?
"He said this wasn't the only deal they were looking at either, saying the team had "some other options, [but] this is the one we decided on so this is what we're real happy with." I understand that it would be in poor taste for Dawson to reveal who the other options were since those other players we passed on are still on their teams rosters, but man, I sure would love to know who those options were! However, I'm going to assume Steve Nash was not one of them.
I was wondering what this quote meant. I think he was referring to his rehabbing from his surgery. At least that makes the most sense.
He is probably referring to his physical conditioning. It was at a certain level, but when he took time off, he lost it. Then it was really hard starting from scratch to get it back.
Your hard work, from fighting to get into training camp to interviewing players/coaches, is highly appreciated by all members in Clutchfans... Thanks Clutch
