Great interview. His comments about Martin's defensive questions are especially enlightening: Hopefully the comment about the Rox coverage is the most complex Martin has seen, shows that the Rockets haven't just been riding the residual memory of JVG defensive schemes, but that Adelman and his staff know how to devise a defensive gameplan.
Great read, really informitive. So apparently his left wrist did bother him with his shot after he came back.
Kevin is from Zanesville, Ohio?? How did I not know this! No wonder I like the guy! Thanks for the link durvasa.. I'd rep you if I could! I must have missed jason posting this on twitter. edit: Bonus points for him dunking on Casey Sanders
Enjoyed the article. I also noticed that a lot about his shot fakes. He almost fakes every time he touches the ball regardless of what he intends to do, whether to set up a a next shot, pass it around, or drive in. I've never seen anyone use that many fakes for a jumpshot that often.
Okay... I really like this David Thorpe dude... great comment... It's totally going in my signature if it fits! LOL
It's like somehow God decided to create a basketball player based on Daryl Morey's wet dream and then throw in a few quirks and flaws so that his salary will be lowered so as to make Daryl Morey's boner even bigger, harder and longer-lasting. Kevin Martin is basically a cosmic joke.
Thanks for the article: Excerpt: Since that time, the two men have developed a strong bond, frequently communicating after games (Thorpe says he watches nearly all of Martin’s contests live) and reuniting every summer at Thorpe’s training facility in Clearwater, Florida to continue building upon the hoops foundation which has made Martin one of the more prolific scorers in the NBA today. My comment: Landry was great, but how lucky are we to have a most talented, young, and hard working player as Kevin Martin. The Rockets hit the jackpot when they got him.
Kevin is a very humble talented basketball player, his trainer is a man who really, really does understand the game of basketball and Kevin personally, so together they really do make a fantastic combo.
That bit about the defense is something Thorpe has repeated multiple times and it's difficult to dispute but I think he's using this to imply something inaccurate. A team can drastically increase it's offensive efficiency with an effective system. The same is true about defense. That doesn't mean individual talent is irrelevant. Yes, talent. Some players have defensive talent. So, I agree, Ray Allen was a part of a great defensive team but he was individually a very bad defender surrounded by some very good defensive players. In the same way, good offenses play a defensive stopper. By all means play a great scoring poor defender like a Ray Allen just don't start Eddie House next to him.
How is it inaccurate when he's making the exact same point that you're talking about. I don't see anywhere where he implies that you don't need defensive talent in order to be a great defense. He specifically refers to the situation of surrounding a bad defender with a bunch of good defenders and collectively being a good defense.
yes he sounds like a skill development coach. maybe rockets could use a man like this for bb development of other players
Thorpe is very euradite, but he is Martin's trainer of long standing. So ponder this... he's the guy responsible for Martin being so darn skinny. It'd be nice if Thorpe could have managed to add just a little more muscle!
K Mart plays for Denver not the Rockets, Kevin Martin plays for the Rockets. One should not call our Martin with the same name as Denver's Thug!
He's got the right to be called KMart as that's his REAL NAME too. Nothing fictional like the Superman.
hopefully its true, that the Rocket's defensive woes are due to Martin learning the complex coverages, and that that will change soon as Martin has a high bball IQ. i sure hope thats it.
